Dog Proofing my new 4Runner?

I keep the back seats folded down, he usually just sleeps in the back or sticks his head between the two front seats.

Lately he's been extra excitable because it reeks of elk and deer back there.

From the day I bought my truck I wanted to make sure the dogs stayed in the back and everything was easy to clean. I purchased the Ultimate Pet Liner to cover the back including the sides and the gate, easy cleaning just wiping down the vinyl, threw the weathertech on top, and then got the Raingler net to keep them in the back. The net only lasted one trip before my dog decided to test the limits of the net (he won) but the folks at Raingler are repairing the net for basically the cost of shipping. Great people to deal with.

nice setup, does the liner stay on via Velcro or is everything tied down? Is the vinyl easy to take off and on?

In regards to the net, is it pure tie downs on existing anchor points or did you have to drill into anything?

-The liner stays on via Velcro, it is easy to take off and on when I do deep cleans.

-The Raingler net connects to existing tie down points except the top connector, I cant fully remember if i drilled for this or simply removed an existing bolt. Either way it requires you to pull on the C pillar cover to put the tie down point in.

I didn't see this covered but I have the 3rd row option which is usually kept down. Putting the dog in the back is great but the seat belts for the 3rd row are exposed and I'm not sure if our newly adopted dog will ever get curious and chew them.

Has anyone got an option for how to cover the seatbelt or something?

Honestly IMO the best thing you can do for his safety and that of your car is crate train and put them in a crate like what @4rnr_grl did in the post above. Depending on the size you can then put cargo safely around the pooch as well.

Re. shedding: with a black/tan GSD who travels on rear seats (cargo is in use w/ ARB drawers), I get visible hair *everywhere*.
Strongly considering covering all carpet in the rear. As soon as I find something that works. Maybe a black vinyl with velcro on one side?

I have a Great Dane as well. My giant crate will not fit in my 4Runner, no way, no how! I am going to build a wooden frame and wrap it in window screen. That way his hair stays out of my nice clean 4Runner.

For work I have a cap for my Tacoma, but the 4Runner needs a spot for Cecil as well!

That's a full grown German shepherd for comparison next to my old taco.

i also use the canvasback liner, as well as these canine door protectors when the 2 GSDs are along for the ride. fit is good for the size of the rear door, had to trim the plastic tap down that fits into the small triangular window.

i don't have them with me out here in FL for an exact measurement, but only a few inches remained. i suggest cutting a few inches off at a time until it sits right, then round the corners off

I don't have the third row option but I routinely haul my 2 Dobermans and they're both ~100 lbs. I use the Wet Okole set covers for the 2nd row with the leash option that attaches to their harness. It works quite well but I doubt you'll find anything worthy of the phrase 'dog proofing' if you haul any type of dog that sheds.

Preped SR5 for my dog

Finally bought my first T4R and also was looking to prep it for my GSD. I built a bed platform with 6" height so it would still fit his kennel but allow maximum overhead for sleeping, gear, the dog etc. Also advocate the window covers and the canine cover for suburbans.

Made plenty of mistakes but so far I am pretty happy with the outcome. Would love to hear if others have done same and their input.

I installed the canvas back but I have to say I'm ambivalent about it. It works great for making it easy to vacuum out the hair and keep it clean but my dog slides on it more than I'm comfortable with. I really like the seat back covers but I'm not sure about the floor mat piece. May not keep it.
