Dome light issue

Okay runner is a 02 sr5. I installed some led bulbs into the dome lights and everything worked fine. Then I got tired of then because the factory hologen bulbs where brighter. Upon removing the led in the rear I popped a fuse. Killed headlights/dash/stereo and both dome lights. Finished putting the hologen bulbs in replaced the fuse and now when I open the hatch I get nothing. When I turn the switch to the on position the light does come on. Also when I open the 2 front doors the front dome turns on but when I open the rear doors I get nothing. What else could I have possibly fried?

I just went through something like this in my 98 where the hatch latch was my problem. But it didn't have the other issue with the 2 rear doors and no dome light.

There are a lot posts on this. There is a sensor in each door that triggers the dome light to turn on upon opening it. This sounds like it could be your problem and its common. Start with a search my friend, you will find your answer.

Door switches seem to work fine. Like I said everything worked fine before blowing the fuse. When the rear doors open the door open light does come on. Just no dome.

What lights turn on when you open the door, be more specific.

If the dome light isnt turning on when the rear doors open, but your dome light works when manually turned on, then it really sounds like a problem with the door trigger...

I think he's saying the open indicator on the gauge cluster works, but not the dome light. In which case, he's absolutely right, it's not the trigger.

If it were me, I'd probably pull the cluster and see if it is sending ground up the light green/black wire that triggers the dome light.

Bad news is if that is fried it means a new junkyard cluster (always hard to find a match) or a ridiculously expensive circuit board from the dealer (often NLA). Sometimes a talented circuit board surgeon will get lucky and find and repair a burnt trace, but it's sort of a long shot.

If the cluster is sending ground, then it's just a matter of tracing that LG/B wire to the light to find the open.

I'm still confused though. The 2 front doors activate the dome light still. The 2 rear don't but the dash icon for door ajar is on. Then the same for the hatch. If there was a problem with a board wouldn't it kill all switches?
I never smelled any burning electrical. Is there a relay I'm not finding that powers these?

The 'relay' is built into the gauge cluster. Since the inputs for the rear doosr are on a separate trace from the fronts, it certainly could be a fault there or in the wiring going back to the triggers. But if you pull the cluster, you can also check if the door trigger signals are indeed reaching the cluster.

The rear doors come into the cluster on a single wire at Pin 7 on Plug C27 (Black/red wire). Plug c27 is a white 2-row 20-pin plug whose Pin out is at p.237 here:

No one on the internet can tell you WHERE the fault is, but I can tell you how to find it. But you're right that the fault can't be on the wire to the dome from the cluster if the front doors work the dome. Has to be the black/red wire or the cluster or two bad triggers (unlikely).
