Don't Text and Drive

Hazards of parking on the street :(

Parked out on the street near my house, went to dinner with the wifes car, came back to this surprise. Guy was texting and not paying attention and now my baby is broken. Ugh...headaches. Rear axle, suspension is bent...not sure if my wheel is ok since it took most of the impact. And all repair shops are slammed so not estimate for at least 2 weeks. How bad you guys think this is?

omg! you have a 4runner type SH! 4wd and 4 wheel steering. ok maybe 3 wheel.

Man that looks bad. Definitely not enough to get it totaled but bumpers not gonna line up the same. Somethings gonna creak and moan in the rear.

It amazes me how many states still allow people to use their phones while driving. I especially notice it in Florida where it seems like every other driver is on their phone while driving. Glad it wasn't worse for you.

Also, since it looks like you'll be waiting quite a while for a repair make sure you get a loaner paid by their insurance co for as long as it takes to get your 4Runner back.

Man, that sucks. Sorry :(

Distracted driving is a pet peeve of mine. Lucky for the guy who hit your "baby" that it wasn't someone's REAL "baby."

Good that you weren't in the truck when it happened.
Take it to Da Bestest body shop in town and tell them to check the heck out of it and spare no expense, and to take their time to be thorough, while you drive a loaner paid by other party's insurance like flyrv9 says ^^^ . Make that sucker's insurance pay for it all.

Please change the thread title to Don't Run into the Back of Parked Vehicles. And please Please PLEASE stop calling your truck 'baby'. :pound:

States ALLOW????? That's effing hilarious!

It is illegal in my state to talk or text whilst driving. So, do I see every tenth driver doing so? Hellya.

@OP What happened to the db who hit you (citation-wise)?

Yeah it's shocking. I know a text/handheld ban won't prevent all usage but it is uncommon to see someone texting while driving around here- enough that it stands out like a sore thumb when someone is doing it.

Damn the plastic panel space ship did some damage.

Take it to the best shop's you can, get high quotes maybe the insurance will total it. I'd want mine totaled if that happened to mine tbh, you're going to have some creaking and maybe even some tracking issues because who knows how much of a impact your link brackets took. And I bet you the axle housing is tweaked pretty good.

Not only that but knowing how shady insurance companies are we have dealt with it a couple times where they refuse to put oem parts saying repop is equal. If my car had oem stuff before i want the same quality or higher especially if it wasn't even my fault. Or their adjuster comes and lowballs you.

Finally was able to obtain the police report and get all the insurance info squared away. Texting is illegal here, but like everywhere else, enforcement is weak so too many of these accidents occur. Not sure if he got ticketed for texting since the officer didn't officially see him do it...

I really wish they would consider this totaled...no matter what, it's never going to drive the same. But, highly doubt it...we'll see in a couple weeks when it finally goes to the repair shop. The hard part is if I need to replace one of my SCS wheels. Can't tell if it's structurally damaged, but it took most of the impact along with my tire. All I can see is a few small dings on the outside. If I need to get it replaced, not sure how long I need to wait since SCS wheels are in high demand and always backordered.
