Don't Text and Drive

Man.... Thats a bummer.

I struggle with this daily. I work from my home/car and while it's generally accepted that everyone in my role "shouldn't" be messing with our phones... The cold hard truth is that our customers expect responses more frequently than pits stops allow.

I try to use hands-free as much as possible, but sadly, this tech just isn't there yet.

If anything is THAT urgent they should be in the habit of calling. No reasonable person sends a text/email if they need a response so immediate that they can't wait 30-60 minutes until that person can safely respond. And if they are still waiting, they should call..

Finally was able to obtain the police report and get all the insurance info squared away. Texting is illegal here, but like everywhere else, enforcement is weak so too many of these accidents occur. Not sure if he got ticketed for texting since the officer didn't officially see him do it...

I really wish they would consider this totaled...no matter what, it's never going to drive the same. But, highly doubt it...we'll see in a couple weeks when it finally goes to the repair shop. The hard part is if I need to replace one of my SCS wheels. Can't tell if it's structurally damaged, but it took most of the impact along with my tire. All I can see is a few small dings on the outside. If I need to get it replaced, not sure how long I need to wait since SCS wheels are in high demand and always backordered.

You'll want to check the inside of the wheel for cracking or fatigue. Better yet, contact SCS and chat with them about what they would look for. Tires / wheels can take a beating, far more so than the truck can. From what I can see, you have a bent upper and lower link on the driver's side, and likely a bent shock. You'll want to look at how far the driveshaft is pushed up towards the transfer case. I'm no expert, but I wouldn't write off the truck as "never going to drive the same" yet. It could be just be a replacement of some basic suspension links.... who knows :thumb3:

Like I tell my boss, "I can fix a lot of things, but I can't fix stupid."

Sorry to see that. It's stressful, especially when your not even involved.

The sheet metal and paint is probably cheap enough may $3K. The suspension is a question, maybe another $3K?

Take the money and get a metal bumper and replace the suspension with some good after market stuff.

Then you can save the next D-Bag that text and drives into your metal bumper. He can by you can of Krylon.

It amazes me how many states still allow people to use their phones while driving. I especially notice it in Florida where it seems like every other driver is on their phone while driving. Glad it wasn't worse for you.

Sorry to hear...glad no one in YOUR family was hurt, and i hope you are made whole with a new T4r.

Its not just the states that allow it, its the people who just dont care...here in the Md/DC/Va area, ALL these states have made it totally illegal to use a phone with your hands while driving...period. Yet during my commute i see no less than 10-20 people on the phone in a 30 min drive. in the summertime, on my motorcycle, it gets to the point where I ended up yelling at some idiot texting or talking on the phone while driving like...well...idiots.

What is it going to take with these people?!?!?!

I must say I am rather surprised on the amount of damage. Not what I would have guessed with a Saturn vs 4runner accident. I agree with others on taking the money and upgrading a few things other than having a shop fix the metal. If you have done any service or upgrades recently make sure and let the adjuster know. They always have more room in their offer to you.

In truth, nothing is really that urgent, but try telling my customers that... Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with you, but the reality is quite different.

The 4Runner (which is my company car) Sucks for even phone calls... I constantly have to monkey with turning on and off the bluetooth and/or shifting the sound around to make it work.

I'm loving this thing so far, but Toyota is still several years behind on tech.
