Doomsday Prepping your 4Runner

Yeah I haven't decided if the producers are making fun of the people on the show or if they are trying to spread the word and make it so that everyone is prepping... During the show they will give statistics on how likely it is for that specific situation that the people are prepped for is going to happen and its usually super low or not even possible. It pretty comical if you read into it...

And it really doesn't matter if you have 10years of food stocked up someone will fight you for it and someone is going to take it. Best bet is to be self sufficient in making your own food water and shelter with the stuff around you. Cuz if someone comes and takes your stuff you can make more. Unless its your family, ill kill everyone who threatens my family. Lol..

Plus, with the decreased weight, I'll get improved mpgs (during Ike, gas stations were closed and people's cars were left stranded on freeway/highways).

i sat in line at a gas station for an hour and a half to fill up my old suburban after ike. it didn't have AC at that point. :(
 
There was a great thread a few months back about this. I believe it was something like "what do you bring / pack in your 4Runner" or similar.

I addition to all these supplies what spare parts would be good to have?

Example:
Spare front CV shafts
Belts
Alternator

What are some of the more common failure items.

I say that on every episode. The only way to survive is through a solid community. If you go on your own, you just don't stand a chance of surviving. Your best case would be getting collected by the govt and be put in a dentention camp. Worst case, well we'll just leave that to your imagination. The movie "The Road" is a good synposis of life without structure.

I was told early on, "the best gun safe was the one nobody knows about." These people not only showcase what they have but evrything their neighbors will need to know to get at it.

Its time to buddy-up and know who you can trust.

Houston ftw and we used my dad 87 runner during ike 4cly and 4x4 it had No prob getting around my dad carried an army trenching tool tow straps and a lot of heat.

Also I have a bunch of brothers around the country who I can rely on, right?

Yeh, if anyone has ever been in the aftermath of a natural disaster like a hurricane, you know how fast things can go back to cave man times when access to food, fuel, power, and water is gone or is limited. I've been without power for days on end several times after hurricanes and that meant the grocery stores couldn't open, gas stations couldn't power their pumps, etc. We had 1 gas station in the whole town get up and running on a generator and people sat in line for hours just to get 2 gallons of gas to run their own generators. A truck brought bags of ice into town after a couple of days, and I saw people fighting over simple bags of ice. If doomsday ever comes, it will get ugly fast and I wouldn't care to even be around for that. As I said, you'd be sleeping with 1 eye open, clinching whatever weapon you could find and you'd be able to go nowhere without eyes in the back of your head.
 
Funny thread...

I thought a lot about prepping when the Japan earth quake and tsunami hit. One of the first things that happened, for the normal folk in the surrounding areas, was a run on the groceries stores. The shelves were empty in less than 48 hours and people were lined up around the block for their allotted one jerry can of fuel. Of course there was no rioting in Japan, but if something happened like that here I am sure things would be a lot worse in terms of civil order.

I figured there is no harm in having 1 months food supply handy as a minimum, and if things go all Armageddon in the world... there are going to be much bigger problems anyways... Then I think its all about having a usable skill set and solid community to survive.

Guns and bit of extra fuel would also help get through the crunch:hunter:.

Yeah, um, no. All these stupid gold/silver/precious metal dealers that tell you that you need to have gold in case society collapses- it's all b.s. Think about it- even big natural disasters, like Katrina, society goes back to a barter system. If you need food, you don't want gold.

-20gal Water + water purifier
-30gal gas
-Camp stove + white gas for fuel
-Camp stove that uses any flammable fluid
-Tarps
-Tents
-Axe
-Chainsaw
-shovels
-GPS
-CB Radio
-Two way Radios
-300ft Rope
-300ft parachute cord
-Maps
-Non perishable foods (enough for 6-8 people for a week)
-Clothes(lots of warms clothes to dress in layers)
-Tow straps
-Tire repair kit
-Air Compressor (electic)
-Power inverter

And I'm heading as far as possible out into the woods

No offense to you or anyone else, but I always giggle with this one. You're not the only person to say this - everybody does in fact. I always imagine entire urban populations heading to the woods with the kids and dog in tow. What about the people that already live in the middle of the woods? Do they go to the closest big city since everyone else is camped out in their front lawns?
 
IF things ever get THAT bad then 6 months of beans is just that, 6 months of beans. and where are you going to "bug out" to?

What you need is a silent way to hunt such as a crossbow, in my case i use an air rifle which will take any small game with ease and do so silently even in a crowded city.
Can buy up about 10,000 pellets pretty cheaply.
Some good fishing gear to last you for decades.
Then some land to GROW food on and store lots of seeds in vacuum sealed bags.
If you can Hunt/Fish & Grow then you have food for life.
Never hurts to have a shotgun and a nice cheap to shoot pistol just in case with enough rounds to last you for quite awhile.
Myself I have a Winchester Defender 12ga with a 18" riot barrel and a Keltec PMR30 that holds 30 rounds of .22 magnum, very accurate, plenty of power and can buy 1000s of rounds comparatively cheap.
All of these things can be done fairly cheaply and you don't have to turn yourself into a paranoid loon to do it, especially since the odds of things getting that bad are about 1,000,000 to 1.

I have had my 12ga and my air rifle for about 28 years, my fishing gear have had for decades and have tons of everything needed.
These are all just normal everyday things that really most anybody and everybody already has most likely.
No need to spend 100s of 1000s of $ and basically all of your free time wildly over preparing for what more than likely is not ever going to happen in several lifetimes.
The "doomsday prepper" thing is really sorta nonsense.

Its basically like watching the Scientology nuts waiting for the evil dictator Xenu to come back and take over the Earth.

You do realize that most of the "city folk" cant hang in the woods for long let alone currently obtain the equipment to survive in the woods in extreme temperatures for a long period of time. They die first either buy starvation or lack of supplies or by the gun. And as far as the people who already live in the woods, I won't f&$@ with them but I'll go up into the back country.
