Door ajar light on

I read a post somewhere a while back where a seat belt got closed in the door. I dont recall what exactly bent because of the buckle but his issue ended up being that there wasn't enough travel in the switch to open the circuit.

It sounds like you might be a little beyond this but I thought it was relevant considering how this is turning into a pretty decent "Door Ajar" diagnostics thread.

Same problem here.. I don't drive mine much so it doesn't drive me crazy.. I'll be waiting for you to fix yours ;) keep us updated lol!!

So far I've realized that there are two different problems occurring here for most of us. One is a problem with the switches where they may become unresponsive due to damage (corrosion, water damage, physical damage, etc) and another where the light on the dash is just remaining lit while all switches function properly and all doors are closed. My issue was the dash light. Don't know how it was fixed. It kinda fixed itself. I'm not sure if a fuse/battery pull or disconnecting the switches even helped. If someone who knows this wiring well could chime in that would be appreciated :)

I had this same problem and its super annoying when your automatic lock button wont work because it thinks a door is open! What worked for me was unscrewing and tightening the latch that the driver's side door closes onto. The first time I tried this I noticed that that part was loose so I tightened it and it solved the problem. After a few months the issue returned but that latch wasn't loose. We messed with it anyway by unscrewing it and shifting it around and that did the trick. Now I just keep a trusty screw driver in the car when the door light comes on to mess with it until it's good. It's about once every 5 months or so.

I am going to try a new fuse and reset today and will report back.

Also, I thought I would add that my auto locks work, most of the time, even with the dash light on. So most of the time while driving the doors are locked, but sometimes they will just randomly unlock. So apparently even though the light is on, it doesn't always think the doors are open. Weird.

Any updates? Unfortunately mine started doing this again. I had the windows half way down while it was raining today (my brother is a smoker and I don't want the smell to stick in there) and I think it had something to do with it. Everything was fine when I left the truck about 30 mins ago. Just went back out to get something and the dome light was on with the dash light. Cut the dome light off, and I'm hoping it'll fix itself again. For the 3rd time. lol

This might not have jack to do with anything, but I had this same situation a little while ago. Except, mine was the actual door latch.

In order to fix this, I had to take the ENTIRE door apart. The window, the window track, the rubber seal, all that.

Next was to take the latch off the DOOR. You need star bits to do that.

There is a little spring in the door that doesn't really do anything. Turns out the spring broke, and wouldn't let the door shut all the way, keeping the light on.

Took that spring out, and haven't had an issue since.

Just throwing that out there. You might not have this issue at all, but figured I'd throw it out.

All of the doors are shut completely. And if I go around and push the sensors, They work. Once again it works fine when the truck is on. As soon as I shut it off the door light comes back on. Thanks for you input Doc!

For what its worth, when i opened my doors the dome light would flicker/dim and it became annoying. I pulled off each door switch and cleaned the corrosion off the bolts/switch contact point and dabbed them with dielectric grease and reinstalled them. The dome doesnt flicker anymore. The moral of the story: bad ground connection will caude electrical gremlins on modern cars. Track down all the grounds and clean and grease each one.

Sorry, work has been kickin my butt lately. Hope to fiddle with it tomorrow. I agree that it probably is a ground problem. I have turned the dome light to door a couple times this week while driving and it will go off for a few minutes, but eventually comes back on. I wish I could check and clean all the grounds, but one of them is on the passenger side up in the dash behind the AC unit.... Getting access is nearly impossible without removing the entire unit, butit looks and feels solid, and provides ground for several other more critical things that are working correctly.

I have studied the EWD alot and based on the responses, it likely has a common culprit, the problem is chasing it down.

After you have ruled out switches and grounds, you might have to try and find a new Body ECU in a junkyard. I'm starting to think that's your problem, as in, it's not anything else...

Update

Just a little update. Pulled all the switches, cleaned and greased them, checked grounding on them. Then pulled the battery for 30 mins to try a reset. Had no luck with that. Then yesterday, I parked it in my dads garage overnight. Its climate controlled and theres no humidity. Came back out this morning and the light and sensors were functioning properly again! I think its just something where water keeps getting to it and causing issues. Guess its just something I'll have to live with. Hopefully you guys will have your issues resolved soon. It may just be one of those things you have to deal with. Since I dont have keyless, its not that big of an issue. Good luck guys!

Door Ajar light

Thanks for all the updates. I had a similar problem and just got the fix. My door ajar light would come on randomly while truck was parked, setting off the alarm. I haven't been able to lock it for over two years. It also flickered while driving. My issue turned out to be the wire to the rear hatch. I took apart and cleaned all four door jamb switches with a screwdriver and electrical contact cleaner. Light still flickered. Then I took the rear hatch latch off (three bolts). I cut the wire cover length wise, then clipped the red wire. Bingo. door ajar light has not come on since. (granted, this is a permanent fix and won't be "warned" if rear hatch isn't shut completely, but at least I can lock my truck again).

Simple solution for rear hatch problem

Worked like a charm! Thank you. I had the same exact problem. Door ajar light flickering and setting off the alarm. Replaced the door switches, but no luck. Just snipping that red wire solved the problem.

Hmm, nice. I'm gonna give this a shot because I haven't been able to get that "door ajar" light working properly for a year and decided to pull the bulb off the dash. Maybe after I clip the red wire, I can finally put the truck on key fob programming mode and can finally program my new keyless remote.

Reading through this thread but I have a similar issue/opposite presentation.

Main cabin dome works with all 4 doors but dome light flickers after being on for about a minute +

Rear hatch cargo light does not light with hatch open but will light with the switch manually set to on, far position. It too will flicker after a few minute + open.

Map lights both work and will also flicker after a minute + on.

Sorry if construed as a hijack.

Check that the alternator out put voltage is good. with the motor running the volatage at the battery should be above 14.2 and below 14.8. Do the lights flicker with the motor off? it might be the battery. Test the rear hatch switch. With the light switch set to door put the leads on the bulb terminals, work the tail gate switch to see if you have power. Some times just cleaning the grounds or bulb contacts help as well. Also the wire loom from the tail gate is a known trouble spot.

Good idea! Will do.

Alternator was supposedly replaced along with the battery, recently - makes me wonder why...
