Door handle locks (proximity sensors?)

I think the biggest issue with my research on this topic is not knowing exactly what to call it.

Im wondering if there's a way to install the door handles on the front doors, or at least the driver side door, that have the little button on it to unlock it. I don't really think it would necessarily need the proximity sensor although those are pretty cool. I don't know if this is possible but I was hoping someone had some input.

Sounds like a challenge, but honestly, your best bet would be to find an aftermarket alarm that MIGHT have something like what you are looking for (lights turning on when you get close, etc etc).

I'm sure it's possible to get those (my parent's Lexus' have them as does my brother's RAV4) handles, but it's MORE involved than just replacing them.

There are aftermarket companies that have similar systems as OEM smart key systems, however, most use proximity sensors to automatically unlock your vehicle, or you will instead have buttons on a different remote or card you carry in your wallet, pocket, etc.

This would then be used with an add-on push button start system. Have not seen any systems that have you install a button on the exterior of the vehicle.

Ah yea I guess that makes sense, I've only ever seen it on cars that have the push-to-start ignition. I don't really care about having that and I assume it's a bit pricier and more involved that I'd like to get into. I didn't know if there was a way to hook up a door handle with the little button on it and set it up in some sort of way. I guess the only way to really do it would be to have the card/sensor and those seem to only come with the push-to-start.

A lot of Japanese cars in Japan have this option. My wife's Nissan March (Nissan Micra in UK) has the locks on a push button door handle, and a normal turn ignition that doesn't require a key if the key fob is in range.

You may need to look outside USDM if you want something like this. But, finding all the exact parts needed is going to be a pain.

The decision that swayed me into not doing it was reliability. How reliable will this be? I can't imagine being somewhere with the family and the engine not start. I would flip.

Anyway I remember I asked around for a shop (installer's website site claimed they installed the Advanced Keys kit) and apparently nobody knew anything about it. I wasn't about to install something like this without an expert, let alone myself.

This was before I met [MENTION=93434]gshadow325[/MENTION] , I'm sure he knows about this but I never mentioned it to him. Would be interesting what his opinion on this is.

It's designed to work with many of their keyless/alarm/remote start systems. I have it on my 5th gen along with Drone mobile and RPS touch. Works perfectly.
