Door lights

Not sure if this topic has been brought up or answered yet, I apologize if it has, but can the lower interior door lights on the Limited be added to the SR5? I found the parts and they are relatively cheap just not sure if there is wiring behind the door panel for them. Thanks

The basic rule for the T4R is that if a feature isn't there then neither is the needed wiring. In some cases it is possible to add it yourself but this is rare and never easy.

You would likely have to tie into the dome light to turn on the door lights when the door opens, or into the door switch.

You could pull the interior door trim off to check and see what (if anything) is there to work with, but as indicated by Grant; it's likely not going to be plug and play.

Okki

The wiring part of it definitely isn't there. I have an SR5 with the upgrade package (Leather, etc) and they are included with it. I have worked on Sp8ball's standard SR5 and there us no wiring for the lights. Good news is there is a blank hole for the factory lights to go in the doors if you order them. Wiring them up would be a piece of cake.

Thats Funny because i have the SR5 with the upgrade package and mine didnt come with them. I saw the blank spot for the lights, my worry was just wiring them to come on when the door opens. Any ideas on where to tap into?

Yeah I figured the dome light could be used, which i dont think all the time and work going that route would be worth it for cortesy lights, just wondering if there was anything in the already in the door I could tap into. Thanks for all the replies.

The only way you are going to find out if there is something in the door for certain is to use a meter and start probing around; maybe start by seeing if anything in the door harnesses are connected to the dome light's +12v wire? Then try to find the door's ground when open wire (hopefully that's inside the door harness somewhere as well). If you tap all 4 to the dome light, all the courtesy lights are going to go on at the same time (even if it's just one door open), that may or may not be annoying to you.

Another idea is possibly taping into the puddle light if the SR5 comes with it? It's not going to exactly mimic the factory courtesy lights but it's better than nothing I guess? Just throwing some ideas out there for you.

I doubt very seriously there will be anything in the door. There may be something in the kickpanel wiring harnesses. I tapped into wires in the drivers kick panel the week I got my truck to install footwell lights. I think the power wire was pink...
Like Dave said- you will need to look for it.

When I have time later tonight I'll look at the wiring diagram for you and see what I can come up with...

OK- so my computer is NOT cooperating tonight so I can't post pics from the wiring diagram- but-

Check plug 2B. It's the white 40 pin plug behind the driver's kick panel. It's the top plug.

Pin # 26 (top right corner) in that plug is pink. If you have that wire it should give you +12V with the doors open. This along with a good ground will light your door bulbs.

Sorry I can't post the pics- don't know why it isn't working?!

Goos luck.

Will this connection to pin 26 enable the new lights do the fade with the courtesy lights?

I did all as described, tapped the pink wire in the kick panel and my lights just stay on. Im grounded good, I think the pink wire is constant power in my 4runner.

If anyone has any other suggestions where I can easily get power when the doors are open (besides the dome light) I’m ready to try.

Never mind my previous post. I got it to work. Ended up using the pink wire that ant man described, and trigged the footwell lights from the door switch on each side. Was kinda a pita, but works great!

I know this is an old thread but I'm guessing Toyota added the lower door lights to the SR5 at some point because my 2016 definitely has them.

That's great you got it to work! Thanks for letting us know. I gave up trying to get it to work on my Trail.

Are you able to post any pics?

I’ve kinda given up on sharing photos, when I try to post photos they upload upside down or sideways for some reason and in the preview only one will be right side up, . (Btw, does anyone know how to get my photos to upload right side up?) Here goes...

Thanks for the pics! It will help others trying to do this mod. Do they fade from on to off or do they stay on all the time?

They only work with the doors and cut off as soon as the door closes. They work together since it’s grounded off both front door switches, it will remain on until both are closed. I haven’t done the rears doors, but may do it soon bc I know how to do it. Then the passengers side maybe took me an extra 20-30min since 3 of the 4 wires were already in place from having done the drivers side first. And I placed and routed the lights wires first
