I've bought from the same seller to fix my passenger side when it locked in the close position and refused to open. He does a good job with the rebuild and he was helpful with questions on the inner workings of the lock when I explained my problem. He didn't have the correct 4Runner lock listed but I sent him an email and he put up a listing for me.
 
oh wow. my right front and right rear door auto locks started failing a few days ago and i was going to post a thread about how to fix it and bam. this post is already here.

im not a car person, are there any instructions to replacing the actuator? i'm guessing it's just remove door panel then replace the actuator?

There is a detailed repair procedure in here somewhere. You may want to use a search option to look up "Door lock actuator repair". This helped me a lot. The whole job took me less than an hour including understanding the procedure. Now I could do it in about 20 minutes.
 
Toyota 4runner lock actuator fail

Passenger front lock actuator failure. Out of warrantee dealer wants close to $800 to repair. Called Toyota Corporate and started a case number. If EVERYONE calls Toyota we may get this addressed.

My LF actuator died today. It's been a few months that I noted an abnormal noise from it. Toyota is really proud ($200+) of them.

I did a search on this forum about there failures. a total of three threads about it. I don't expect Toyota to help because it seems not to be a wide spread issue. There is a post on ebay for them. Lifetime warranty and free shipping for $40 bucks. guess we'll give them a try.
 
Thanks to this post I found a seller on eBay selling the actuators with "lifetime warranty" when you return the bad parts. The seller was ActuatorsPlus and I paid about $150 for 3 of them. When i add on what my local mechanic charged me to install them I ended up paying less to have 3 doors fixed than I would have normally paid to have one door fixed. This was at least the third replacement for each of the 3 doors for my 2006 4Runner.
 
All of mine were replaced around 8 years ago under my extended warranty. Paid for itself. No replacement needed since.
 
One thing you can do IMO to prevent future failures is turn off the automatic lock/unlock function. You know, where you take it out of Park, they all lock, and when you put it in Park they all unlock.
 
Don't spend $100 to replace the actuator. Spend $10 to buy just the motor and replace it.
Part number FC-280PC-22125 from Amazon is what you want.

I've done this twice (front driver side and rear driver side) and it's worked perfectly.

Ah...full actuator with locking mechanism is already on its way to me. Guess I'll do replace the total this time and motor next time if it happens. I did watch a video of the motor replacement...not too bad to do.

Does it actually work and how easy is it to replace (been a electrician for almost 20 years and have no problems fixing stuff)?

Check that T30 Screw to see if its loose!!!!!

So for the last two weeks I've been hearing a rattling sound coming from the left side of the door. I thought it was some items I had in the rear door cup rattling around, I removed the items but I could still hear the rattling. So last night I tried locking the driver door with the remote and nothing happened. So I tried again and I heard this sound of gears grinding/clicking in the driver side door. Also noticed the inside door handle and lock didn't want to move but the unlock button still worked. Seen the YouTube video of the guy taking apart the 07 door panel, so I thought I would check the side of the door and check the
T30 lock screw (not sure what its called, see attached photo for the screw location). I found this screw completely loose and ready to fall out. I'm thinking that the loose screw may have caused the Actuator to fail.?
I may just add lock tight to the T30 screw when I replace the Actuator, that should keep it from getting loose.

New Actuator ordered yesterday from Rockauto for $122.99 and it should arrive tomorrow.

Replaced the actuator today. It was pretty simple, it only took me 40 minutes. The part that took the longest time was trying to put back the window track. Here's a video before the replacement showing the lock actuator making noise.

For the motor from amazon, is it the short shaft or long shaft? When I searched for the part number 10 items showed up. Not sure which one to order. Also. Is a new gear required? Thanks. Phil

FC-280PT-22125 is the part number to search for on ebay. I have replaced the motors on my two 4Runners doors several time. Last time I purchased 5 and now I need one more. I suppose I will buy 4 or 5 more.

There are several variations of this little motor. For my two 2007 4Runners I need the motor with a D shaped shaft that is 10mm long. The first time I bought one that was 20mm and round. I had to cut it to the proper length and file a flat edge on it.

Opening the plastic housing that holds the motor is a pain in the a$$. I have been successful prying open the housing just enough to get the old motor out and slipping in the new one. It helps to have a someone to lend an extra hand.

I have two new rebuilt actuators that I never used because mine started working again, if anyne is interested I give you a good deal.
