Door Lock Actuator

The past two weeks I have had an issue with my driver side door lock. The actuator is not functioning as it should and a lot of the time, does not lock the door when I hit the lock button on the key fob. I have searched for other threads but most of what I have found is people who have the actuator not working at all.

Does anyone know if it is possible to lubricate the actuator without taking the panel off? I can tell the actuator is still good... It just seems that there is something gunking it up and preventing it from locking. The unlock function works fine. If this is not possible, does anyone know of a write up on replacing the actuator so I can figure out how to get to it to lubricate it?

In addition, what is recommended to use as lubricant? I've read that WD40 can lead to rust if use in door locks. I have also read that a silicone lubricant is preferred.

my passenger side just did the same...would work sometimes..then fail etc..I ended up replacing it with an ebay one that a few guys on here did. Its pretty easy

This will get the panel off

then there are 3 torx screws in the jam that hold it in....take those out and peel back the plastic film to reach your hand in to get it out...there is also a 10mm bolt on the door you need to remove to move the internal bar out of the way.....swap the cables...re insert...make sure the rod from the door handle seats....and then just button it up...I had no manual and did it in about 2o minutes yesterday

I suppose you could...still need to do the same steps to get to the cables. although I haven't heard of anyone doing that and correcting the problem...

Thanks for the info man. If it's easy enough to access, I'll try to lubricate it first and worse case scenario, will have to shell out the $100 for a new one. Thanks again!
