Door lock problem (Could not find in search)

Hello,

This is my second post here, but before I'm banished to the search engine, I've already tried without finding my specific issue. Kinda.

I just bought my first 4Runner. '00 base 2wd 3rZ. It did not come with a keyfob. When using the key in the divers door, the key will lock all doors, but will not unlock any. I currently am having to unlock the truck from the pass side.

Once, I was able to use the drivers door to unlock. After removing the door panel to inspect, I could see nothing loose or binding. Still could not jiggle anything enough to m ake it unlock again.

The previous owner had already ordered a new solenoid and will be shipping it to me.

My question is, does this sound like a solenoid? All search engine results produced the opposite symptoms. The door will unlock, but not lock.

That's weird, mine is the opposite. I can unlock but not lock from the drivers door.

I would like to know what causes this also.

driver door lock actuator controls all functions, including keyless entry, which means using the fob. this is caused by normal wear and tear of the truck over the years. opening and closing causes the actuator to weaken to the point to where it will retract ok and not extend or opposite. when i got a replacement fob, i had to manually retract and extend the button for the lock in order to program it correctly.
replace the door lock actuator and you should be set.
