Door locking problem

My 4 runner does this weird thing that drives me crazy. When I'm walking to my truck I'll unlock it and just before I reach the door it locks back. It is really a pita especially when it's raining. Anyone else have this problem? And is there any way to fix this?

how long does it take you to get to it, after you hit the button? walk faster, or wait a few more seconds before you unlock it.

mine relocks after 30 seconds, if no doors have been opened. its a security feature. I believe the time can be adjusted.

I do this to my wife sometimes with the other key fob when she walks out to her Xterra...

But I think nevada is right, it might be re-locking before you make it all the way to your T4R.

Does the car do this when you unlock it from the inside using the power unlock?

After I first got it, I would unlock the doors from inside and before I could walk out to the driveway to grab something they'd lock back on their own. I thought I was crazy for a while...then I realized that it's programmed to do that.

Who would design something like that??? I didn't push the unlock button for the heck of it...I meant to!

im pretty sure the RElock time can be programmed. im not sure what the time options are tho, I haven't looked into it.

My Acura does the same thing, both my 4Runner and Ack do it, I believe both have a 60 second limit, I just don't unlock my vehicle, until I am within range that I will open the door before it relocks

mine is 30 seconds. I think thats the default option.
our highlander is 60 seconds.

Ah, makes sense, I never timed it, like I said, I'm so programmed over the last 10 years that I only open it when I'm in range of the door handle

It is a safety feature in case it was unlocked accidentally (by having the remote button pressed inadvertently while in pocket / purse). Picture as you're walking away after parking at a mall and you unlock it by mistake. Someone sees it and they have easy access to it now.

It will re-lock in 30 sec. UNLESS any door is opened first.

Really annoying feature, mine's set at about 15 seconds. Any links to mod or eliminate this?

Nevermind, it appears the owner's manual or a visit to the dealer is in order.
