Door open/locks

How does your 4runner door lock work? When I go in the car and shift the gear, it locks all the door. When I shift it back to Park and turn off engine the door remains locked. Is this suppose to happen or is the door suppose to unlock when I shift it back to Park?

There's a lot more info about the automatic lock and unlock feature in the Owner's Manual, including how to disable or change it.

You can have the doors lock either by shifting out of park or when you reach a certain speed. For unlocking, you can have it unlock the doors when you shift into park, or when you open the driver's door.

I never really thought about it. I think maybe when you turn it off.

The reason why I asked was because I had a Toyota loaner Corolla and that's how their locking system worked. When you shift the gear it locks the door and when you put it back in Park it unlocks all the door. I thought Toyota car operates the same but I guess in this case it's different, according to you.
