I feel a bit foolish, so laugh if you want.
I was encouraged by posts here (searched for 5th gen actuator), and a couple of youtube videos, plus found an inexpensive driver side actuator at 1a auto ($58!).... my 2012 TE 4R won't lock the driver side electrically & it does not sound the single beep, either, when I push lock on the fob. I can lock the door with the key, I found out from a post or two here that I found.
I got the part from 1a auto earlier & Monday I got home a bit early & the weather was warm, so thanks to the door panel video from the guys at tacotunes, I got the door panel off the driver side, but realized (foolish part here), I did not really have a grasp of replacing the actuator, so I chickened out.
It was more difficult to put the door panel back on, and once the panel fell off when I thought it was on OK, and I found a small green (blueish-green?) small trim connector on the ground (d'oh!) - one round end, and the pointy "push in the hole" end. Smaller than the white connectors that hold the door panel on.
Question -- does anyone have any idea where this goes? I imagine future weird vibrations/noises from this missing item.
Note, I got the door panel on by rolling the window down & starting to hang it at the front by the mirror, did not work for me if I started toward the back.
Now, what do I need to do to remove & replace the actuator, is it just those 3 T30 torx bolts? or do I need to remove the hex bolt on the inside? What about attaching the cables? And, any suggestions about peeling the plastic skin off the black sticky stuff? ... that's one reason I chickened out, the plastic did not want to release, I'm thinking about using utility knife to cut the black stuff (not the plastic)... does it release easier warm than cold? Use a hair dryer to help? Can I think of more questions? Am I just a paranoid chicken? ;-)
