doors keep unlocking and rear window goes down

i need help troubleshooting my wifes truck, the doors keep unlocking like every few seconds as if a 4 year old keeps hitting the button. This happens all the time whether the truck is running or not. It'll do it all night until the battery is dead. The rear window also keeps going down on its own and the rear wiper stopped working. i have taken the battery out of her key fob which was my first guess but now i don't know what to check... any ideas? its an 01 auto...

Check the wires inside the harness between the liftgate and the body up by the hinges. Years of flexing breaks insulation and wires and causes many cases of back door electrical weirdness.

Just had exactly the same problem on my 2000 SR5 5 speed.

I read quite a few posts that indicated the problem might be the interior fuse block on the drivers side.

I got lucky with mine, just disconnecting and reconnecting the harness connections running in to the fuse box and some of the fuses fixed mine. It's been good for a couple of months now.

Most of the posts I read the entire fuse box was replaced to cure the problem.

Always worth a try to check the connections/fuses first and then move on.

Ok ill do that too. it sucks because its intermittent and that of course makes it hard to troubleshoot. Im glad to hear that I'm not the only one who has had this problem, i searched but with no good results. Thanks for the advice.

Not a problem, electrical problems are the worst to track down (for me at least) hope it helps.

Don't forget to post your resolution when you do get it fixed, resolutions are missing in a lot of the posts I looked at and the resolutions are the most helpful part of these posts!

I had this happen to me. It was caused by a broken license plate bezel. There are two screws that hold the rear hatch lock cylinder to the plastic license plate bezel. The plastic tabs that hold the lock cylinder can break when the key is turned in the lock cylinder.

The broken bezel causes the rear hatch lock sensor to get confused. It doesn't know if the lock cylinder is in the locked position or the unlocked position. I called it ghost lock. The locks in my truck would randomly unlock and lock in rapid succession.

The solution was to access the inside of the rear hatch by removing the interior panel, it just pops off and pulls up. IIRC there was a plastic sheet I had to pull back. Then I removed the rear hatch lock cylinder and plugged the hole with a plastic plug from the hardware store. So, I no longer have a rear lock cylinder. However, the rear window and rear hatch lock still work from the driver controls.

Hope that makes sense. Unplug and remove the rear hatch lock cylinder, leave everything else hooked up. The ghost lock should go away.

On the right track but not quite...

Yep, it was the rear hatch lock cylinder. Unplugged and everything went back to normal... ordered a new one from the dealer. Thank you :yo:
