You posted up on the Chinese grill, so I had a look here, lots of great photos and info!
I was wondering about getting the grill and painting my front and rear bumper covers on my OR. You said you used SEM trim black?
I googled and found several different types and finishes, One looked like 39143 but then it goes further about flat, semi or gloss finish?
Alot of help appreciated on what you used.

Mine has a hole in it already...3 months old been on ONE TRIP and only rides on the trailer so it's literally been used ONCE:infidel::infidel::infidel::infidel::infidel::infidel::infidel:

I did not paint the valences. I purchased the OEM PRO pieces. The closest match to the OEM PRO pieces is 3M satin black vinyl. Matched very well last year when I used that. Currently, I have the OEM PRO pieces installed front and rear.
Here is the SEM paint I purchase. This is a perfect match for the grille.

Do you leave yours on daily? I know a lot of friends complain about the color fading and material getting brittle when left on 24/7. They are pretty cheap but I agree you should get more than one trip on it. You try sewing it up?

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and got some great gifts for their 4Runner. I am still waiting for my bumper pieces to come in. With the holidays I am sure it won't deliver until mid-January.
I did get my new windshield installed. The original one finally split due to a rock chip. Local shop installed an aftermarket piece with the heating element for $310. I'm really picky about waves in the glass and so far this one looks great. Hopefully, the glass will hold up better this time.
Historically, cars that I have owned that were assembled in Japan are the only cars I've had to replace windshields on. US made cars seem to have better glass. My Tacoma was made in TX and never had an issue. 4Runner, lots of chips. I've had 3 Honda Accords and all had zero issues. I've owned 2 S2000's and had broken windshields on both. Just my theory. After replacing the Japanese car's windshields I never had an issue after.
The weather was beautiful here in GA. After breakfast with the family, I hit the trails with a good friend. I parked my Faux Pro next to his real Pro.
Took this opportunity to snag a couple of pictures of my bike while the lake was down. I really need to get a nice camera and stop using my phone all the time.
Anyone have a Nikon 3300, 3400, or 3500 they can comment on? I have been on the fence about buying one of those 3.

its always on the trailer but the trailer was kept in the garage all year. Yeah i'll have wife sew it up at some point. she's gotten pretty good at it, pretty handy hobby actually

Getting out turned into a huge mess! What took us half an our to drive in took about 3 hours to get out. most of the group needed to be winched either out of the mud or winched through the bypass. I took very few photos while standing by and watching people fly through the mud or get winched. I was able to power through the mud. Since I no longer have a winch, I was determined to get my rig through under its own power.

Interesting run you guys had. What was the reason for having so much trouble? Could you have had a better set up that would have made things easier? Any lessons learned?
Hiya - since you'd built up your rig - went back to stock - then added some mods again, have you missed or had a need for your front aftermarket bumper at all? I'm curious because your recent trail runs have been similar to what I'd like to do on mine and I still have the stock front (and rear) bumper.

I was the 3rd one to go the mud route. The first guy made it through running my old 295 Nitto RGs. The second guy ended up sideways and had to be winched ( you can see him sideways in the first picture in the link I attached). When I went through a lot of my success was more momentum and a better line. Probably a lot of luck as well. Who knows.
Lesson learned, watch and learn from others mistakes/successes and a lot of skinny pedal!
Hey! I miss my bumper sometimes and often think about ordering another one and not doing the triple hoop. I've been eyeing the CBI front bumper lately as well. But for now, I'll keep the PRO setup.
There is really not a need for the bumper on any of the trails I have been on. Every trail I ran with the Demello bumper I ran with an OEM bumper. It's nice having the piece of mind knowing I won't damage an off-road bumper and I have a winch. But not having that bumper won't keep me from being on the trail. I'll be at windrock in a couple of weeks and I'll run all the same trails as before and enjoy it just as much.
So don't get caught up in the modding. If you have the extra cash to spend, spend it! I loved seeing my rig all built up and I enjoy seeing other built rigs. But I enjoy seeing guys roll up with basic mods and skid plates hit the trails as the guys with big tires and bumpers, haha.

Good thread, read through the whole thing. I was tempted to do more mods to my 4Runner but it is my daily and I've been trying not to get carried away with it since I'm building a giant Tacoma to tackle to hard stuff.
I think all I'm going to do in the future as far as mods go to exterior is the Method 701 trail series rims, keep the same size RG tires, regear and the Coastal rear bumper if I smash up the stock plastic. Still quite the list, but this thread definitely got me thinking do I really want to go so far with my 4Runner that is working well and I can get it into all kinds of places as it is.
So hard not to mod though, seen a picture of a SAC 5th gen the other day and thought that would be nice but I don't need to start a third SAC haha. just need to stay focused on the Tacoma and get it done.

awesome. I grew up off sixes and parents still live there. I remember when sixes was a 2 lane road, 1 in and 1 out with no stoplights. Sometimes When i come home its shocking how much things have changed around that area.

Just finished up reading your build thread and very nice work with your build. I don’t live to terribly far away in Leeds, AL. I had a 3rd gen that I did a good bit of work to but it was 2wd so I ended up and selling it. Currently have a ‘13 GMC Sierra. This thread has made me really have a itch to build a 5th gen to run some trails. Nice work again on the build.

Thanks! Great to see you still active on the forums! I try to keep things going on here because I really enjoy the forum community. There is a lot more to this place than Instagram and posting pictures of stuff. I feel like its turning into a big advertisement space for companies to post pictures and push products. I'll always enjoy the forums more.
Wow, not sure where that was going... haha but you should buy another 4runner! I am sure it's hard to find places to wheel a full size rig. Tough here in the Southeast.

It's not over..... Here is my new Coastal Off Road rear bumper! I've been working on running some new outlets in my garage. I added a 220 outlet to run my welder. Hopefully I will have time to start this build first weekend of February. Pretty excited to get this going and hopeful I can still fit in the garage with the spare tire on the back.

Yes, this forum has always been great to read through and see all of the many ways a 4Runner can be built then wheeled. Looking forward to seeing your new bumper put together.
It is impossible to wheel a full-size truck here in AL. If someone has a farm to run it is fun but I would rather run trails.
