Double Decker Storage Solution

If you have the double-decker storage area, this might help you get more use out of it? I found a Rubbermaid "wheeled underbed box" that fits perfectly under the deck. (I got mine a whle back at Home Depot where they had them marked down to $8 each)

It gives you a great way to organize the gear you want to haul around and keeps those things from rolling around loosely.

The entire container slips neatly under the deck, and all of your items are secure and out of sight.

Need to empty out the back? Just slip the entire storage box out, instead of having to remove each item individually.

The box fits so closely, the lid buckles slightly if you put it on.

Unless you plan on turning your truck upside down, I think you're pretty safe using the storage box without the lid.

Excellent Atomic 4Runner.

I thought one of those totes/bins would fit, but never tried. It'll probably be a little akward for me to use because my Husky liner doesn't fit under the shelf (meant to fit with the shelf in the down position). It'd be nice if Rubbermaid makes one with the wheels on the other side, but the bin/tote would need to be tied down.

Although I might add for myself I put the cargo shelf in the locked down position on day 1 Feb.13th. It's still in that position.....lol

With this idea I might put some gear in there and put it up. Some of that just in case type of stuff, Tow strap,field glasses,light's ect.....

I was going to Home Depot anyway so I picked one up for $9.97, works great. I left the lid on it does buckle a little but it is nice and snug wont be moving around.

1. This is not a "mod", but, rather, a really cool accessory. MOD is overused. New floormats = not a mod. Using silver dog bowls as your projection headlight shrouds = mod. Rant done.

3. Do you have it slid all the way in? I can't tell from the pics. I have 2 Bazooka tubes that fit under that shelf perfectly & I'm curious how far this would stick out from under the shelf top with the tubes in there too.

Excellent idea!!

I bought a similar product (Sterilite) with the same intent, but it is slightly smaller. It is shorter and fits fine, but it is not "snug" as your Rubbermaid box appears to be.

Time to go get one today!!!!

Yes, it is touching the back edge of the back seats, and the deck projects about 5" beyond the back edge of the storage container. :

Storage Bin


I went to Home Depot this afternoon and bought the same thing. It cost me $15, though.

But anyway, it fits perfectly and the only problem is that you cannot fasten the lid shut (since it buckles, as mentioned above). However, after thinking about it, the top part of the double decker system serves as a great lid because it is only about 2 inches above the top of the storage bin's walls. It is especially nice because of the "downward curve" of the double decker shelf sort of makes it hard for anything to jump out of the Rubbermaid bin.

Props to you, Atomic, for posting the pics - especially the one with the label attached to it. I wrote down the info, so I knew exactly what to get when I strolled into Home Depot.

The one thing I don't like when I use the shelf is that stuff always ends up sliding back and falling off. This sucks when it is groceries or something you don't want all smashed up. Has anyone seen a net or other device to keep stuff on the top shelf from falling off? If I had that, plus the bin, I would use the shelf a lot more.

The double-decker option includes a stretchy cargo net that attaches to the top shelf. At least mine did. I believe it was stowed away inside the storage bin located on the right-hand side of the cargo area.

Is there anyway you can post a picture of that stretchy net with the shelf up?

I have the double decker, but mine did not come with a net. I would definitely use the shelf more if I could find something like what you are describing.

Sorry, I should have made myself more clear. I meant something other than the stretch net that comes with it. (For those that haven't seen it, it hooks under the shelf in the front and back and lays flat on top it. This allows you to put smaller objects under it).

I am wondering if there is a vertical net that stretches accros the top to keep things from sliding backward. I do use the flat net sometimes, but you can't really fit a buch of groceries under it without it squashing everything.

If Toyota doesn't make a really, really, rediculously expensive accessory catch net, then I would check your local Pepboyz or Autozone for something generic - made for all SUVs. I need a cargonet that will prevent all my stuff from falling out the back when the hatch opens, but what you mentioned would be just as useful too.

Toyota makes another cargo net that connects across the back to keep items from falling out when you open the lift. I wouldnt really hold anything stable on the double decker though.
