Double Decker System

Rhino-99's thread got me thinking about the double decker cargo system on the 4th Gen. Does anyone use it? I have subwoofers sitting on top of mine so it's useless. Let me know what cool things you guys do with it. Thanks

When I bought the truck in November I thought "Man, that's cool!"

I since haven't used it and am beginning to think it's more a pain than anything else. I can think of a few times I might use it in the future if I have something fragile and have a lot to pile back there but I have to wonder if I really will take the time. I do keep a few thigs back there and to set it up I have to either remove or relocate stuff so I can raise it and lock it.
 
I did the same thing as Nuke, I was like wow thats real cool but I have not used it yet. My wife got me weathertech floor mats for V-day so now I am thining about taking it out and getting the rear mat.
 
I tried using it a few times on Costco shopping trips. You can't put much weight on top of the deck, and the space underneath the deck is too skinny to fit most items. I ended up having to stow a lot of items on the rear seat.
What good is that?

Consequently, that useless deck has been in the down position for almost 2 years.

I am seriously considering buying the filler panels so that I can remove it.

There just isn't enough clearance under it when its in the up position to make it usable for anything. I have tried to use it several times but even our small luggage pieces wont fit under it.

Good idea, but poorly executed.
 
the only thing I've used it for is an incognito way to conceal things without being as obvious as using the tonneau cover. I basically slide my laptop and gym bag up under the top as close to the seat as possible. with the angle of the rear glass, it's impossible to see anything under there for car theives.
 
Mine too, stays in the down position. I also hate how everything rolls or flies around the cargo area when it is in the down position.
 
I thought it was neat, and would really have liked to use it. Instead, it turned out to be more of a pain than anything useful.

I'll likely pick up that Husky liner that's made to cover the entire cargo area with the double decker in the down position.

I agree.

Used it one time to see how it'll work and then put the double-decker down and it's never been back up again.

Re: The cargo netting... I find to be very useful. Small things don't go all over the place anymore.

I also stretch across the storage area in the area about one foot off the 'base' of the cargo area, a bungee-cord with carabiner end-fittings...

This keeps boxes, 12 packs of beer, coolers from sliding to the rear.

Important where one time I opened the rear door and a twelve pack that was resting against it, and I couldn't see, came crashing down when I opened the rear cargo door.

With the bungee cord there, nothing slides back past it to the rear door any more.
