Downside to removing rear coil rubber cones?

So my rake is pretty extreme, and I don't have the coin to drop on a set of Bilstein Adjustables for the front. I was reading about removing the rubber cones from the rear coils so that I don't get so much lift in the rear. Are there any downsides? Like is it going to be really noisy as I drive down the road without those rubber cones? I was also thinking of pulling them about and trimming about half the thickness out of them. Thoughts?

Do your cones even touch the axle? I hate to even suggest, but perhaps coil spacers in the front if $$ is tight. What have you got up front for a lift now?

I run mine without the rubber cones w/no ill effects. They make no noise at all. Sonoran Steel advises installing the LC coils in their lift kit w/o the cone bumpstops. At the same time, they include brackets that extend the frame mounted bumpstops.

I've always been a little leery about it though, because the spring is now directly contacting the upper spring "bucket" and, well, that's metal on metal.

Just know, that by removing them, you will only lower the rear end about 1/2". The only part of that cone bumpstop that adds to your lift height is the lip of the cone that the coil is seated on. Trimming them won't be worth your time.

So, the cones are progressive bump-stops as you may know. Considering they are only 1/2" to 5/8", removing them will not make up for this difference in heights. Secondly, aside from the potential noise you may experience, the bump stop keeps the rear axle assembly, including the tires, from traveling too far into the wheel wells and undercarriage. If you were to hit even a speed bump at moderate speeds without the bump stops, you could blow your shocks and jam the axle against the body, causing damage. You should re-evaluate your rear springs IMHO depending on what size tires/lift/look you are going for.

Well I've got 7 wraps now, so I can't get any lower with LC springs. I think I'm going to run it like this for a while and then maybe ditch the spacer. I can fab up some extensions for the bumpstops pretty easily.

I ran my 8 wraps with "coneless" for about 9-10 months & just recently put the cones in to give me just a touch more rear lift (1/4" to 1/2" or so, as BFAD said above). I have had no problems either way, with or without them. In my mind I think having the cone in gives you a softer feel when hitting bumps, & having a rubber isolator between the metal coil bucket and metal coil should help the ride. Just my thinking...

If you want to lessen the rake until the 7 wraps settle, pull the cones, then put them back in later if you'd like. You'll be fine. You can also put some weight in the back of your Runner to help them settle quicker.
