drafty driver seat dash?

so i drive a lot. 40k in the last 18 months. I also live out west and ski a lot. so I spend a lot of time doing long drives in winter. every single time I drive longer than 30 minutes in my 5th gen, my lap starts getting cold. there's a draft somewhere and I can't figure it out. the only things I can do to combat it are put a blanket on my lap, or turn the heat on and point the dash vents at my lap. the former is annoying, and the latter always makes me too hot. anyone figured out a fix for this? any idea where the draft is coming from?

3rd gens had a vent under the steering wheel to send heat right there. Only guess is through the firewall. Do you have any mods that would have affect the barrier between the engine bay and interior?

You probably have your seating position dialed in with how much you drive, but could it be a poor seat position and you’re losing some blue circulation in your legs?

if you think is a draft get some matches or an incense stick (or smoke if that's your thing) and when you feel that coming on light it up, blow it out and see where this nefarious breeze is coming from. (co-pilot recommended)

no mods that would affect it. only mods I've done other than lift and cosmetic stuff like tint are BMC and some fender plastic trimming.

i dont think so, because putting a blanket on my lap fixes it.

Could it possibly be the cold air permeating through the door? Not sure if you feel an actual draft or not but the door isn’t insulated so it could be the source.

Funny that I dont feel that int he 4runner but I do in my new Volvo on my left foot.
Solution, put some sucks or some covers under dash where I feel the breeze. It makes it better but does not eliminate it.

Try pushing the air recirculation button (outline of a car with a sideways “u” arrow). With this button off, even with the fan off, air will permeate from the vents in the dash. With this button pushed on, that flow of outside air into the cabin will stop.

I turn this on every time i get in and start the T4R. One of the few things about the 5th gens that drives me up a wall is that it automatically turns it off every time you turn the ignition off. I would love to figure out how to reprogram it so it didn't do that. that and the thing where it won't let you turn on the recirculation when you have the defroster on.

That’s strange about you having to turn on air recirc every time.
I don’t have to do that, mine stays in the previous position it was left in. Both 2014 & 2021

Ya the recirc not available with dial set to defrost is annoying but there's probably a reason for it that I don't know of. What year is your vehicle? Mine is 2015 and the recirc button stays at the same setting I had it prior to turning the ignition off.

the only time i experienced something similar had to do with a replacement windshield not having a proper seal--was redone and problem went away
