It's your snorkel that's creating all the drag.
:Seriously, these 3rd gens are race cars compared to 2nd gens. I had 3 of them and to climb steep hills in the Ozarks you had to keep the gas to the floor, turn off the overdrive, turn off the A/C, and you'd still lose speed. My 3rd gen handles the hills much better and can actually maintain speed.

i agree with this, you're driving a wheeling rig/expedition rig as a DD that's just the name of the game , the 4runner handles quite well all things considered , i mean really just step back and look at it, it looks like a brick compared to anything made in the last 10 years....
but with that said i can care less about aerodynamics and such on my rig and i really don't feel like driving one of these.........

Ill chime in. My 4runner has no trouble coasting at all. In fact when Im driving the back roads to work here in WI, Ill let off the gas long before the stop sign a) to preserve the brakes and b) because it roles forever on its own. I notice just the opposite of you the Kid. When Im on a hill I will gradually pick up speed. Just the other day I noticed how fast I picked up speed on a steep little hill. Im lifted 2" up front and '3 in the back with TRDs and OME 890s. On the other hand, my 4runner has a bit more engine braking than domestic vehicled Ive driven. My 98 taurus was crazy . . . it would just cruise at 25-30 with my foot removed from the gas. And then my moms 05 Accord is just the opposite. It has crazy engine braking!
But it seems just everyone else said, your modifications are the culprit. We're lifted about the same, but you have 1" bigger tires than I, roof rack with lights and snorkle. That must be it. Not trying to insult you, but youre positive youre rear drums arent dragging at all?
