Drain and fill with Toyota ATF WS

The Toyota dealer did a D/F with Genuine Toyota ATF Type T-IV in 2011 - like I posted (for my 2005 4runner) - which I purchased new from them.

Page 261 of the OM on my lap says the 4-speed tranny used Genuine Toyota ATF Type T-IV. The 5 speed (page 260) uses Genuine Toyota ATF ATF WS.

I've gone 160,000 miles and 15 years on the Genuine Toyota ATF Type T-IV tranny fluid (a semi-synthetic). Still shifts fine/perfect.
Can't ask for more than that!

WS didn't exist before 2004/5 so if you have a Toyota older than that you could only use Genuine Toyota ATF T-IV.

The two tranny fluids are not compatible and you cannot mix the two. A 4runner tranny holds 12 quarts.
When you drain your 4runner tranny you are taking out about 1/2 the total fluid in there. Owners typically measure what they take out and replace the same amount - saving a measuring problem.

I'm actually quite pleased and surprised with my 4runner transmission making it to 160,000 miles without and problems or slips. It is still shifting the same as when I drove it off the dealer's lot in 2005.

So you acknowledge that the two fluids are not compatible, your transmission came with WS and was designed for WS, but you use the wrong fluid anyways. Gotcha... :lmao: :deadhorse: :withstupid:
