Thats cool, i'm sure my heights would be influenced by my gear. I'm torn about taking out the factory folding shelf thing. I really like it but if I built drawers I would want them to extend all the way back like yours. Sick of whatever I have resting on the deck falling down when I hit the gas. I keep a bungee cord strung across the two seat release hooks to hold my cooler when I go wheeling etc.

Have you considered trimming the edges of your enclosure in aluminum angle? It would be pretty easy and protect the edges as well as 'finishing' the look where the edge of the wood is exposed.

I still have to bolt it down…it doesn't move only when both drawers are out it tips forward. I don't have the fold down thing, if you take it out can you put it back in later?

The only mistake I think I made in making too tall was the fridge I intend on getting won't fit now. If it will it will hit to be mounted in the center where the door is the highest. But if I remember right it should have been 10in at most to fit the fridge on top. Oh well it was my first one :shrug:

I recently saw a pic of someone's with the aluminum trim and it looked really nice but I think I'll leave it the way it is. I like how the wood looks its like a frame for the drawer making it stand out.

This wasn't the easiest thing to do and took like 2 months to complete since I was on my own. But OP believe me if I can do it you can do it :thumb:
 
ARB Drawers in 4th Gen 2004 4 Runner

I installed the ARB RD945 and the RDRF945 in my 2004 4 runner. While I am quite skilled at construction and engineering, after weighing the cost of materials, weight of finished project, features, and my time, I opted to buy instead of build. I already had the ARB fridge so I wanted an extension tray for the fridge to come out for access. I assembled the two drawers together one evening and used a gray heavy duty twill like headliner and 3M spray adhesive to cover the bare exposed metal sides that I would see once installed. I let that dry overnight. The next day is was a simple install especially with a periodic helper to lift the drawer frames in and out multiple times. First I placed the drawers just in the back so I could mark on the floor trim the front corners at a position where the hatch would close and only leave ~1/4 clearance between the drawers and hatch. The next step was to remove the floor trim and the carpet pulls right out. With the bare floor exposed and the spare tire removed I determined where I 1) had access to drill holes and attached mounts on the underside and 2) where the mounting bars on the drawers should be placed. Once the holes were drilled, carpet replaced, holes marked through carpet it was simply a matter of putting the drawers back in and having a helper to tighten the 4 mounting points (After filling in gaps between the rail and floor with many of the provided spacers). The drawers were replaced and then the top replaced (Roller Floor top needs to go on first before install if you will not have room to replace side screws (I did in my case but check first). I then placed the fridge and install the fridge tie-downs. Whole install was only a few hours.

ARB Drawers Con't

I had previously installed an ARB plug to power the fridge off of a second battery. This plug is installed in the little compartment on top of the wheel well. I cut a notch in the lid so the cord can come out and the lid can close. The cord loops over the rear shirt hanger so it can freely move and not get tangled as the roller floor moves in and out. You can see I attached the Toyota storage net to the rear seat catches. This doesn't impede the function of the rear seats reclining are putting back into place. The drawers leave a triangular space the width of the panel that has the two cargo hooks.
I also attached a picture showing the backside and the gray heavy duty twill headliner to cover the bare metal.

I just finished up my drawer system--inspired by a couple of build threads here and on Expedition Portal. I'm no carpenter, and I had to cut twice after measuring once a couple of times, but all in all it turned out OK.

What size Fridge is that? I've got the ARB 63 and I'm wondering if I can use the same two drawers underneath, just like you did.

I have the smallest 37qt which is 16.9" high. The 63qt is the same height just longer. The only potential issue might be the extra length (33.3" vs my 27.8")on the 63qt preventing the lid from opening. I would have to check how far mine pulls out and space for the lid. I don't have my truck with me for several days so I can't check it.

Yeah, it's that extra length I'm wondering about. I know you say you don't have your truck on hand right now, but do you think there are 6 more inches you could squeeze? I know ARB says their piece is 37" long, but that leaves only 4 inches for tie downs, the plug, and the fact that the back seat leans towards it...

My custom made drawers. Low profile and strong enough to carry several hundred pounds of gear.

Hey guys. We have a universal drawer system that "should" fit into a 4th gen as well, but we need some measurements to make sure. Is someone willing to help out with that?

These are the drawers we sell for 5th Gen guys, and they're a great fit into that floor space with no plastic trimming required. They just have to bolt it through the floor.

Outside measurements are:
36" deep (front to back)
40" wide (side to side)
10" high

When measuring, it's best to do it with back door closed to make sure the distance from front to back, and at 10" high" will work with the drawers installed. The 5th gen is very close (within 1" or so).

These drawers come assembled as a double unit (just like the photos). The left side top slides out, so that's ideal for your fridge.

Thanks a lot bud. This should give you an idea of what we would need to measure. This is a 5th gen in the photo.

The 5th gen back door has a curve to it, so the distance from the door to the back seat is longer in the middle of the door, than on the outer edges, so that can mess up being able to close the door.

Also, if the 4th gen back seat reclines or leans back too far, it could affect the space for the drawers. I doubt it's really any different than the 5th gens though.

For them to fit, it really can't be any bigger than these dimensions.
Outside measurements are:
36" deep (front to back)
40" wide (side to side)
10" high
