Dreaded Transfer Case Leak

Just an FYI for everyone that may be dealing with this issue.

I bought my 4runner new 10 years ago. It now has 120,000 miles on it. The transfer case has been leaking for about 2 years. I didn't want to pay the $1500 the dealership wanted to charge me to fix the issue that Toyota has known about. The dealership recommended that I call Toyota's corporate office and inquire with them about the issue. After calling Toyota, they got back to me and said they were going to bring the rate down to cost which was $40 for parts and $1000 for labor and, they said they were going to cover half that cost. So now, I'm paying just over $500 for the repair. I would never have thought to call them for anything. Turns out they actually do care about their customers. So give them a call, it may turn out well.

What part of the transfer case is leaking.

It's coming from the actuator motor.

Good job Toyota.

Customer service like this is what keeps people coming back to the brand. Its a small price to pay when the person decides to buy a new vehicle and buys another Toyota because of this.

I fixed mine at 210K miles for under $40 with Blue Devil gasket and seal reconditioner, put it in, drove for 3 days then drained out and refilled with new Valvoline 75W90. Total cost was $37

Toyota had it for a day and a half, I'm happy to say it is fixed. Now on to my CV boots!

One of my friends has contacted Toyota with the same issue. He bought his used so it may be a different outcome but I'll keep you guys posted.

So get this...now my transfer case won't go into 4 low. Odd how after they pull my case, split it and pull it apart to replace an O-ring it quits working. They said the actuator motor probably went bad. If they take it apart and find what they repaired caused this new problem then it would be under warranty. If it's not, then I have to pay $2000 to have it repaired. This happened 8 months after the leak was fixed. Coincidence or just bad timing???

Not quite sure what to do here. Thoughts?
