I am having some sort of an issue with my drive line and neither I nor the local mechanic can figure it out.
I have a loud knocking sound, it's frequency proportional to speed (ie faster speed, faster knocking). Its consistent frequency changing with speed indicates it is rotational, and I can feel the drive line binding from it (as if the break is being pumped while driving). It is loud and very obvious. Unfortunately it is only occurring intermittently, and of course only while I am driving, not the mechanic. So far it has only happened at low speeds, and at the start of the first drive of the day, but not every day either. It occurs in both 2wd and 4wd, while coasting in neutral, accelerating and breaking. So far it has not occurred while going in reverse, at highway speeds, or after the truck is warmed up.
Any suggestions what to look for, of what the issue might be? Mechanic says he checked everything and didn't find anything.
