Drive shaft u joints

What u joints are people using? I do some moderate off roading and I am coming up on 150k. I think it’s time. I was thinking about going back with the oem, but if there is a better option I’m open for suggestions.

Very timely post. The factory U-joints on my '07 have 202K miles on them. They get clunky toward the end of each oil change interval when shifting from Park to Drive, or Park to Reverse. After greasing them during oil change, they're quiet again for a few thousand miles.

My thinking was to have new Toyota replacements pressed in some time this Spring/Summer given how long these have lasted with negligent maintenance by the original owner. But I'm interested to see what gets posted here.

I'd play it safe and stick with OEM.

202k, nice! I think that kind of solidified the idea of going back with the OEM. I am interested to see what some other thoughts on this are too. I always thought spicer was a good option,but I have not read on anyone using them in Toyota’s.

Right when I start from a stop or as I'm coming to a stop I hear and feel a clunk. Is this what you are experiencing? I'm assuming I've got worn out U joints as well.

No , mine are not making any noise as of yet. I’m trying to stay ahead of the game . It does sound like you may have worn out u joints.

Get underneath and try to move them around. You may have to jack up the rear end to take the load off them.

That is usually the splined slip joint binding due to lack of grease, when it feels like a slight thud. Read around here, check YouTube for videos on the subject of greasing properly e.g. YouTube
