Drive train vibration

I have a stock 2002 4Runner SR5 4x4 with AT tires, 340,000 km and I have a rear/drive train vibration that I am trying to diagnose. I am feeling the vibration in the seat which has started recently.

It does not feel tires as it seems to happen at all speeds. It is not a big vibration and seems consistent. It is more like a jumping feeling or hesitation.

I have recently changed the rear lower control arms as they were worn out and was wondering if this could have caused the vibration? Thinking about it the vibration started about the same time or shortly after changing these.

I will be getting the tires re-balanced in a few days to rule them out and then going from there.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

What do you mean "jumping feeling"?

Does it vary with wheel speed? Does driving in AWD change it?

Reach behind you while driving and feel the rear trans tunnel, if it's stronger there it is likely driveshaft or u-joint related, it could be wheel balance you'd feel that in the steering wheel more than the seat

It feels more like a hesitation than a vibration. Or a non-continuous but consistent vibration. I does it all all speeds.

I was on rough logging roads the other week and a friend suggested that I may have knock a balance weight off the drive shaft. This seem to start suddenly and not gradually. I just specifically say what day it was.

if the drive shaft is off balance it is a droning constant noise.specially at higher speeds. when was the last time you greased jerks on the joints. may be needs grease.

I am not sure when they were last greased however they should have been inspected last year when I had the vehicle inspected by my mechanic. He is on holidays right now so I have not been able to talk to him. I will have a look at the joints tonight after work.

There is no noise associated with this "vibration" that I am feeling.

I had this just happen on mine, turned out to be pinion bearing. Put in neutral, put on emergency brake. Climb under and try to push the drive shaft up and down were it connects to the rear end. If it moves, its the pinion bearing, shouldn't have any up and down play, that would make your drive shaft vibrate just like a bad U-joint. Will be easy to check the U-joints at same time.
