Drive train warranty for 99 with 124000 miles???

hi guys
i just bought a beautiful white limited, it's in great shape and i still have a chance today to purchase a 2 year drive train warranty for 1875.00

it's an automatic and i am shifting into low gears a lot... so the transmission might go in a year or two, but how much will that cost to replace??

and should i get the drive train warranty?
or know that Toyotas are made to run and run and run.

I would pass on that.

i know a few people with automatics with over 200k miles and no issues, plus if it did go out im sure you could pick up a used trans for a few hundred bucks

Yeah it's almost always cheaper to pay for repairs than to pay extra for a warranty. I'd pass.

Is the warranty from Toyota? Most of the aftermarket warranty's are a scam, alot being investigated by various states.

Yeah, I think you could rebuild or replace your transmission for that much. I wouldn't do it.

It probably won't be worth it, but you should get an external transmission cooler. It could help save your transmission.

thanks guys, yeah i did pass... i had had a housemate pushin for it. but i have had 4runners before and always felt pretty positive about the drive train. all except the time i bought a bad rebuild, a tough lesson, my own mistake. with carfax these days the quality of used cars is higher if you use the system right.

this is a one owner California car, always serviced by dealer. everything feels tight... and i paid so little for it spending a thousand after a year isn't going to bother me much. got to drive it today, drives excellent and looks real good i think they clayed the body surface... it's so f-ing smooth and clean.

my thinking is buying old and used... spending 10k versus 40k and driving it for a few years one loses so less money on the investment, in 4 years it will be worth maybe 4 grand a loss of 4.5k. if i bought a new one at 40, it'd be worth maybe 20 grand in 4 years, a loss of 20 grand!! i don't abuse my cars so they are usually pretty easy to resell.
