Hey guys! I didn't wanna start a new thread but reading through other threads i haven't been able to find a solid answer. Ok For those of you doing your own maintenance and such on your 4Runners like myself, are there any grease points i should look at or should be filling?? I was under the vehicle looking for them. I have an early edition print owners manual and it doesn't cover this. I'm worried if i should look at any driveline parts and be greasing them regularly or how often. Thanks any info would be cool!!

There are 3 zerk fittings for grease on each drive shaft.They are 1,2 and A in the pic below.
I give each one 3 or 4 pumps of grease every time I change the oil.

Technically, you can use lithium chassis grease (NLGI 2) on everything. Additionally you can use a grease with moly (Molybdenum-disulfide) added on the slide yokes if you wish.
That said, many, many 4th gen owners use one grease with moly in for both slide and spider. Haven't heard of any spiders going bad. If you're starting fresh, it would seem to make the most sense to forget the moly, but I wouldn't sweat it if you have used it or need to use it.

The repair manual tells us to use "Molybdenum disulphide lithium base chassis grease NLGI No. 2" for the slide yokes and the universals.
I personally use Aeroshell 33 and have used it to grease everything for years and is now the universal standard in most of the Airline industry and military.It's a synthetic containing Moly and about $15 a tube online. http://www.shell.com/home/content/aviation/products/lubricants/greases/grease_33/

Interesting contrast with the owners manual. Taken as a whole, it seems to support the idea that's its not a big deal. Just git 'er done.

I just looked it up again in the repair manual and you are right JB. My bad. It does list non moly regular lithium NLGI #2 for the spiders and moly based NLGI #2 for the yokes and double cardan joints.
I use the same grease for both and wonder if a dealership would have 2 grease guns set up with 2 different greases.
From the repair manual under General>Maintenance>Chassis>General Maintenance
10. LUBRICATE PROPELLER SHAFT AND TIGHTEN BOLTS
(a) Lubricate the propeller shaft by referring to the lubrication chart. Before pumping in grease, wipe off any mud and dust on the grease fitting.
(b) Grease grade
Spider-Lithium base chassis grease NLGI No. 2
Slide yoke and double Cardan joint-Molybdenum disulphide lithium base chassis grease NLGI No. 2

Moly based grease is alot different from lithium grease. If you google it you will find the moly product is almost like little round extremely hard moly beads that the spline shaft can roll on. The lithium grease uses lithium for the carrier for what ever kind of oil is blended with it. Grease is used as a way for oil to be allowed to slowly weep into the joint or whatever its use may be. The u-joint is has very tight tolerance and is sealed against dirt so little round beads of moly are not needed.
