I am not cop material, but driving around in an Armor Card, doing deliveries and pickups sounds pretty good to me. The person that suggested this to me is just that, but he retired from another job, and the pay difference between what I get now, vs. what I may get is huge (meaning I will get less money). So if I do this it's obviously not for the money. But the idea is still quite intriguing: waiting to get a callback from to Armor Car companies.

I have to ask, why do you want out of IT? Do you just not like your career any more or just your specific job? It seems that I hear more and more these days that people feel the same way you do about IT and want out. I've been working in IT for almost 2 years now and actually enjoy my job, but I guess its not for everybody.

i think its cause IT is so unstable..i mean you dont know if you'll have a job next year or not...and i am not sure if you would consider this IT, but keeping up is a full time job on its on..with software, security, and languages for programmers...those are the only reason i can think of...

What it comes down to is I keep myself in IT, get paid same or more down the road, or pull myself out, take a job that has danger in it, but too is redundant, and I am sure like any other job it has it's share of A-HOLES!
I think part of the reason this job sounds so appealing to me is I get to carry my gun with me, and it's a good excuse to buy a second handgun.

Well I finally talked to HR: here is what I learned people. If you like the salary you are getting in IT, then stay in IT. This salary is not much more than what I was making working at a foodstore. They got to be kidding me: take that, and the danger factor, you really got to love this job or not have the ability to do anything else.
She did offer part-time, but between nightschool, my full-time job, and my family when can I fit that in? Forget it!

If you like IT, and want to carry guns and shoot things, join the military.
Having said that, Join the Air Force, not the Army. Unless you like to deploy for long long periods, periodically, and really don't want to see your wife and family.... just kidding.
I love what I do, to a degree. And this is comming from a person who did work in the IT field, as a customer support rep for a hospital. Outstanding people to work for and with, but I ALWAYS wanted to fly. Right now I'm not doing much of that as well.
If you have college, be an officer, get paid more for what you do, and definitly go Air Force. Better bases, and located in better spots in America.
