Driver side a-pillar grab handle?

I really like the idea of this, but not knowing IF or how it might affect the airbag is a major concern.

Like for most outcomes it probably wouldn't be an issue, but it'd always be there in the back of my mind.

There should be no effect on the side impact air bags deployment or effectiveness.

Skip forward to 0:35 and you can see that the side curtain air bags deploy from the headliner and not from the A pillar.

And here is a frontal crash test which shows no air bags deploying from the A pillars.

Problems to solve:
1 - Pop the existing trim off and find out if mount points exist in the LH A pillar for the grab handle
2 - obtain the LH A pillar trim from the Prado/GX460 and see if it fits

If the mount point exists but the trim from the GX460 doesn't fit then I suppose it's possible to modify the existing trim using fiberglass.

From the GX460:
A Pillar panel trim, left, gray - 6222060260B0
Grip handle, left, gray - 7468060010B0
Grip handle hole plug, gray - 7461560040B0 <- QTY 2 required

My 4th Gen had an optional grip handle for the driver's side A-pillar. Tons of threads in the 4th Gen section. I ordered the parts and installed it myself way back when.... This may be the part number
74603-60010-B0 Grip subassembly

The 5th Gen right hand pillar handle part number is

74680-60010-B0 Grip Handle, Right

Maybe there is a left hand version of the 5th Gen's A-pillar trim and handle or a Lexus equivilent. The key will be if the 5th Gen's metal frame has the bolt anchor-nuts already in place.

The A pillar frame on the drivers side is not constructed like the one on the pass side. Nothing to bolt the handles to.

That's unfortunate. Did you take it apart to check? I don't understand why Toyota didn't make them symmetric just like in GX or Prado.
Also why no handles for 3rd row passengers - GX has them :(

Yes, I did....... but take both of yours apart so you can see for yourself!

Case closed.
