Finally picked up a T4R! She's a 2002 Thundercloud Grey Metallic 4wd Limited edition. I don't have pictures yet but plan to take some after I detail it. I'm going to have a maintenance day when all the parts come in. I bought:
OEM valve covers
OEM spark plug covers for when I replace the valve covers
OEM fuel filter
Koyo Radiator
B&M cooler
New plugs and wires
I've already changed the oil and am going to do the ATF and diff fluid within the next month or so
There are a few issues/questions I have to fix some of the minor things wrong with the car:
1) The drive side door lock doesn't work. The car didn't come with a key fob for an alarm system. The previous owner said the stereo guy that put the head unit into the car disabled the factory system (?) even though the security light blinks red when I get in the car. Anyways, when I use the power door lock button, the driver side door lock doesn't do anything. Also, when I try to unlock the car from the outside of the rig using the driver side exterior door lock, I can't turn the key to the left; is this normal? I can turn the key both ways using the passenger side exterior door lock. The only way I can unlock the driver side, besides pulling it up by hand, is using the exterior door lock on the driver side and turning the key to the right.
2) I bought an external trans cooler. I've read all the threads on the install but can't figure out why we need to buy more transmission lines (4 feet of 3/8" trans hose) vs what comes in the kit. When doing the install, do we replace both rubber lines with the new lines that we are supposed to get? Do we have to get this particular size because the metal tubes coming out of the trans (the send and return lines) won't fit the lines that come with the kit?
3) Also, when installing the cooler, I read about the Magnefine filter, which seems to be a good idea. Should this go on the send line (the line from the transmission / before the cooler) or on the return line (the line to the tranmission / after the cooler). I get a mixed bag of nuts when reading what people have done
-Edit: ordered and will install on send line (line going into the cooler)
4) When installing the cooler, I was going to do the drain/fill method of my trans. How I understand this method is to remove the rubber send line from the nipple that is located on the stock radiator/stock transcooler and stick it into an empty bucket, take the dip stick out and put a funnel into the drain hole, start the car and watch a quart drain out of the send line, stop the car and add a quart, rinse/repete till I see new fluid coming out.
5) When replacing the valve covers, are the bolts that bolt the covers to the heads reuseable? Assuming they are.
Thanks! I've searched and read about the above, but wanted to see if I could generate some conversation in one thread.
