Driver side speakers not working

Hello everyone!

I have a 97 4Runner Limited.

The driver side speakers stopped working. Both the tweeter and woofer make almost no sound while the passenger side speakers still blast away.

I'm thinking that maybe there is a bad connection somewhere since both the woofer and tweeter no longer work.

Anyone have a similar problem? Any suggestions for a fix? My hunch would be to remove the radio and check the connections in the rear. Think I'm on the right track?

I had the same problem. Then I noticed it was the setting on the head unit which the fader was all the way right.... Hopefully it's the same for yours for a quick and easy fix....

As JB said, first check the balance control, because all the other fixes are more annoying.
If you can access the rear of the head unit/amp--I know, great fun-- you can feed a signal from an alternative source to make sure the speakers are the problem and not the head/amp unit.
If you open the door and examine the speakers--I know, great fun-- if they have foam surrounds, the foam could have disintegrated by now.
I haven't seen the speakers in my '97, so I don't know if they use foam surrounds.
FYI: In my'97 SR5, the tweeters that are up on the A-pillars seem very faint in volume when you put your ear up to them, yet when combined with the door speakers a full range sound is produced.
Perhaps yours has lost the door speaker only.
In mine, the tweeters and the front door speakers are powered from a single, two-conductor connection to the amp per side.

Wow! You guys were right!

I had previously played with the FADE/BAL settings with no luck. I tried again today and BAM! the radio works great again!

Still sounds decent for a 1997 truck.

I love these cars. Rock solid reliable.

Drivers side speaker not working

Drivers side speaker in door is not working. Tweeter is fine and all other speakers ok. Also checked head unit and all settings are ok. Any other suggestions on where to start troubleshooting?
