driver's side window problem

Driver's side window became more difficult to get to go up over about a week or so. I had to hold the button in the right place for a few seconds and it would eventually go up. Going down was fine. Now it's stuck down.

I took off the driver's and passenger's door paneling off so I could figure out how they system works.

On the driver's side, when you hit the button to make the window go down, the motor 'clicks' [it is already all the way down obviously] and the voltage meter shows action. I'm sure the motor would bring it down if it already wasn't all the way down. When I press the button to make the window go up, there is silence, and the voltage meter shows no action.

I unplugged the passenger side motor and ofcourse, there are no sounds trying to make the window go up or down. So obviously there is some power making it to the motor, so:

a) The motor has malfunctioned
b) The motor isn't receiving the signal from the button when it tries to make the window go up

So, has anyone else had this problem? Of course any shop wants to replace everything they can get their hands on including the motor and regulator and blah blah for 400 dollars or something.

Is it possible the motor is dead even though it rolls down fine? Thanks guys.

check the switch find out which wires are connected when you are pressing up un the window switch and try by passing the switch with just a wire between them

I understand the concept but don't know how to apply it. The wires are in a think harness that lead into connections. I gutted the entire door, and removed all the insides to try to further figure it out. This is basically the entire system as it applies to this problem:

Press button->signal goes through the circuit board all the driver's side buttons go through->into the thick wiring harness->a connector->other side of connection goes to window motor.

With only the window motor hooked up, it goes down in a fury. When I press for it to go up, however, nothing; not even a sound or click.

I went ahead and ordered a new window motor from autozone for 50 bucks. I'll plug it in and see if the situation goes away, if so, 50 bucks well spent. If it doesn't, I'll take it back and start pounding my head into the wall.

My problem is if the 'new' motor does the exact same thing, I don't know what to do or test.

If you have a Volt-Ohm Meter and have access to the door-switch contacts, you can check continuity thru the switch. If you have continuity with the switch depressed ( or pulled up ), then it's likely not the switch. You'll have to figure out which pins on the switch connection are for 'up' and 'down' and ground.

i have an 93 with the same problem, my driver's side window is stuck down. It clicks when i push down and nothing when pull up. I wanted to know if you fixed your and how.

I fixed it. It was what I figured it was the entire time, but being the most expensive part, I tested that option last. It was the master switch [the whole unit that holds the buttons etc.]. I got one off ebay for 30$ shipped. Good luck.
