driveshaft hitting GAS TANK not just skid plate

like the title says... my driveshaft has been hitting the skid plate but recently while in anza borrego going up the calcite mine trail i realized at full lock it actually hits the gas tank and made a nice little dent in it. also there is a piece of metal attached to the driveshaft (maybe a weight to balance it out) but its not helping the situation. that piece of metal is seperating from the driveshaft and making it even closer. i can try and put a picture up tommorow but what do you think? my problem sounds a little worse than others..

im running 891 coils with 5125 shocks and the panhard drop bracket welded in

i was thinking your panhard bushing were giving out causing the rear axle to move to one side while in a turn. but you have a drop bracket. how long have you had that on? could it be welded in crooked setting your axle off to one side?

That piece of metal is a balancing weight, make sure it doesnt fall off.

You need to limit your suspension probably. I limited mine with straps right before gas tank contact, I lost like 1/2" of travel

Yea not many with limiting straps. Some use the rear swaybar to limit articulation, but it limits too much IMO.

Most just use the rear shocks as limiting straps, and after wasting nearly 500 dollars breaking shock ends over and over I invested in limiting straps. Now there is no driveshaft contact, binding, or rubbing noises that drove me nuts.

Extended bump stops are another option. Limit straps require welding. If you don't have access to that then extending your bump stops are the way to go. I use to have the same problem but it seems the panhard drop fixed it.

haha i had this same issue as well, never heard of it till it happened to me.
crazy story but yes i have the same setup 891s and 5125s
my driveshaft would contact the gas tank skid.
i pounded in the gas tank skid where it made contact and havent had an issue since.
i still run swaybars though.

A few things that I discovered while making my gas tank skidplates. My skidplates fit closer to the gas tank than the stock one. Also I recommend that the gas tank is slightly loosened, pushed over to the drivers side and re-tightened. Some tanks will move over quite a bit.
