UHG! I hate to start another thread on driveshafts when there is so many out there for 4th gens. I feel like I've been reading them for hours without seeing what I'm looking for... so... I'll ask. If I'm just missing the answer, please feel free to post me a link.
2007,2WD SR5 V6. I have been experiencing all kinds of wonderful things with this vehicle, as it's approaching 190K. The latest battle with Toyota has been tail housing/drive shaft yoke seals. In 2014 they replaced the defective factory seal with a redesigned seal free of charge (never thought I would be offered something like that out of warranty! Huh. ) In 2016 the new one failed and I negotiated the replacement cost down. Well, guess what... that one has failed also. They REALLY don't want to replace this one without charging me a whole bunch of money and on top of that they said the drive shaft yoke is "porous" and tends to cause these failures so it will keep happening unless I replace the whole drive shaft. HUH? I debated with them for awhile and they stood their ground on that. Anyway, their solution is to sell me a nice new crappy original style drive shaft assembly and won't replace just the yoke (of course not), so that will cost me around $1000. Of COURSE I'm not going to spend that, but I just think the whole thing sounds ridiculous.
Has anyone else run into a yoke and seal issue like this??
That being said, I still have the original drive shaft (integral yoke up front, companion flange at rear end) and of course the lovely "clunk" that goes along with it, so maybe it's time to just replace that drive shaft and be done with all this B.S.
So is the Lexus drive shaft still the thing to get? Can anyone share a year, model, or even just a part number and source? Or is there an even better option now? I have no problem taking it to our local drive line shop to be balanced. Or can I really buy just the yoke? Yoke part number?
Any feedback on this whole thing would be appreciated.
Thanks everyone!
Scott
