drivetrain squeal

2000 4Runner limited 4WD - have a strange squeal in the drivetrain. At speeds above 30 mph after you let off the accelerator approx 2-3 seconds later there is a squeal that sounds like a slipping belt or bad pulley. It will disappear once the speed drops below 30 mph.

Its not in the engine, it has to be somewhere from the transmission back. Could it be a bad bearing somewhere? Could it be something inside the trans or transfer case? Could it be a problem with a CV axle?

Your description is a s close as I've been able to find to A similar problem I'm having on my 02 sr5 4x4.the only way i can make mine change is by shifting into second ( auto trans). Neutral, swerving, braking, altering rpm's make no difference and the "frequency" of the noise does not change - it's either on or off.

Did you ever figure this out?
