Very recently, I did a mod involving maintaining the Factory fogs even with the "High Beams" in operation. The reason I did that was because, I've got GREAT Lighting on the street using powerful LEDs for close range vision on dark streets, but when I need to see a bit further up ahead, why sacrifice the 30 ft advantage close-up, follow(?)!
Okay, so since the Main Body ECU Compu net removes the GND to the factory fogs when the High Beams are in use, I didn't wanna tamper with that system, so I approached it another way!
I installed a 30A, 2PDT relay under the hood! The 10A High Beam fuse is energized when you "flash/turn-on" the High Beams; and the fogs become disabled by the MB-ECU at the same time! To get around that, I used an "Add-a-Circuit" in the High Beam fuse slot at the Main fuse-box under the hood!
So when they're on, it energizes the coil circuit (term# 86) for my new relay. I'm using the (no longer used) "Party-mode" switch as a GND switch to term# 85 on my relay coil! I have a (15A) in-line fuse connected directly to the battery...
...which feeds terminal #30 (input), on my rly, and term# 87A (N/O), feeds the Green wire on one of the fog-lights (one wire feeds BOTH fogs); the WH/BLK GND wire to the factory fogs are already grounded to the chassis! So when I hit the High-Beams, even though the MB-ECU kills the GND to the factory fog relay, my relay feeds the fogs when the High-Beams come on!
I think you can do the same by breaking the GND or the HOT wire to your DRL circuit under the hood; but instead of using the 87A terminal on your relay, you use term# 87 (N/C), and the DRL's should turn off with an AOB switch in the cabin!
That DRL bulb circuit is very likely grounded on the chassis as are the factory fogs; hence the NEG-Side Switching technology, but the factory relay's GND is controlled by the MB-ECU, so you just kill those lamps with your own relay! Please let me know what-cha think Keith!'Best to you & yours'

In the US, daytime running light can be turned off, via infotainment system, wow. In Canada it’s forced ON.

In Canada, DRL is the LAW. In the US it's not.
I'm having the same issue with my 2021 TRD Pro...I bought some LEDs from Retrofit source. I would pug one in and it would work fine, then I would plug the second one in and both bulbs wouldn't work. I called retrofit source and they said I need anti-flicker modules. ordered the anti-flicker and attempted to install again. I tried every combo of polarity with no glory. I'm $80 in the hole for a simple DRL and no one knows how to remedy the situation. Someone help me!

What is the voltage that needs to power (Voltage range) your New LED's?
I noticed this is a fog light LED running at 8watts!
Is this what they recommended for your application?
If so, you should be able to send them back, on their dime, if they don't work.
Daytime Running Lights might be required or legal in your jurisdiction, but when traveling they might be either a nuisance (due to others always flashing at you since you obviously "forgot" to turn off your lights) or a reason for officials to pull you over and try to extort money.

That it's required by law in Canada is just the effing stupidity and ignorance of local governments who think that vehicles are only used in the country where the vehicle is bought. It's the same frigging idiocy of locking mph/mpg in for US sold vehicles. It's a pain to run them in "metric" countries (like, the rest of the world) when you don't see in the local measurement how fast you're going in the usual spot.
Is that a Cali thing? I've never once been flashed or had the idea to flash someone else for their DRL nor have I ever found any DRL on any car ever to be a nuisance. They've been fairly standard for like 20 years now I think?
Being able to turn them off to be incognito is neat though.

I think you missed the point of this whole thread.
We know there’s an “Off” position on the stalk.
We want to run “running lights” only without the stupid DRL’s burning up our high beam bulbs.
(That’s a different subject)

I just bought a 2021 TRD PRO. The Headlight Revolution DRL Xtreme solution will not work. The HID Kit Pro solution will not work. All were supposed to be plug and play. My car has an integrated single projector for the low and high beam LED. The reflector housing is like all other 4Runners but only uses the 9005 white bulb for DRL only. No high beam. The SUV will not work with any ballast or DRL driver. Neither side will light. If I run a stock bulb on one side, the LED DRL bulb with no ballast, driver will light and the stock bulb will go out. Both LED DRL installed, neither side will not light.
