DRL question

I have done my research but maybe I have overlooked this point... I am looking to disconnect my DRL's to get rid of the orange during the day, but when I turn my driving lights(orange) on I would like all 4 to light up. Does this work with snipping the one wire that goes into the relay box or no? I have also seen a link where someone hooked up a switch to either have the DRL's on or off as they chose. I was not looking to get so intense with this mod. Anyone have experience with this?

I think I'm misunderstanding something, because I can't see why (1) you'd have orange (???) driving lights, and (2) why you would want DRL's on while you have driving lights on. (Perhaps by "driving lights" you mean parking lights? The answer below assumes you mean auxiliary driving lights))

If you simply cut the green wire with the red stripe, the DRL's will not come on with your driving lights - they will not come on at all, except as turn signals.

Either way, the real problem is that the DRL's are wired to go out when the headlights (or parking lights) go on. You'd have to study the wiring diagram, figure out how that happens, and then rewire it to make that not happen. That may be easy, may be very difficult, I'm not sure. Frankly I'm not sure you're going to get enough benefit from that mod to make it worth your trouble.

But, heck, just install a switch if you want them off during the day. It's very easy.

Hmmmmm...... I have an '03 Limited 4WD V8.

Once i take the footbrake off, the DRL's turn on. When i put my PARK lights on, DRL's are still on. But once i put my HEADlights on, DRL's automatically turn off. Then if i go back and have my park lights on, DRL's automatically turn on.

thats it? i thought only the shop can deactivate them? this method does not cause any other issues?

Yes, you're right. I was wrong about the parking lights. My apologies for the error.

So, to clarify - headlights turn off the DRL's but parking lights don't. But, if the wire is cut, the DRL's still don't come on with the parking lights (I just went out and verified this).

So, one solution to have both DRL's and parking lights on at night and no DRL's during the day, would be to run a hot wire from the parking lights to a relay. Then run the green wire with the red stripe through the switched side of the relay (so that it only has continuity when the parking lights activate the relay.)
