DRL with retrofit

I will hopefully be finishing up my projector retrofit this weekend using all Morimoto hardware and I want some opinions on keeping my daytime running lights. Can anyone who has done a retrofit weigh in on keeping or losing the DRL's? My main reason for doing it would be to extend bulb life but I also don't really care for changing factor wiring. Thanks in advance!

I have done a retrofit on mine and I deleted my DRL's way back by snipping the wire that goes into a plug under the driverside dash. IMO daytime running headlights look out of place to me. I could see like a small indicator lamp or the turn signals like 5th gen 4runner's but headlights no. That and I also like to be in control of if my headlights are on or off. There is no in between.

I disabled my DRL's when I did my retrofit for the same reason - to extend the bulb life.

Delete them you will kill your hid's. Bulbs and ballasts are designed to run at 100% power. Less will flicker or not ignite. Also be sure you use an aftermarket wire harness. The factory harness can not handle the igniting of the ballast and you will smoke your wire harness.

Are you saying to delete them or leave them alone? Also, I will be using the Motocontrol bixenon relay harness. Will this be sufficient?

You pretty much have to delete them. Even if you were to keep them they would not work as DRL's because of the lack of power to ignite them as stated above, and the fact there is no "dimming" HIDs.

Ok, thanks. That makes sense. I did not realize that the DRL function did not run on the same amount of power as having the headlight switch in the on position.
