Drove the 4R through Water that came over the hood & hood scoop.

Thanks for all the tips.

- Checked the Diffs no frothy fluid
- Checked the air filter (K&N) had a touch of water at the bottom
- The Carbon Filter was damp/soggy
- Entire engine bay was filled with leaves and grass clippings
- Radiator was full of debris
- Fire re****ant/noise pad on underside of hood was soaked
- Headlights and fogs were fine

Will keep note of the idle to see if there is any issue with the the idler arm pulley.

I'm guessing a rough or inconsistent idle is the symptom that the bearing is worn out?

Your first clue is its probably going to start sounding scratchy, or squeaking like hell...

I Have the lowest pully removed on my engine, It is not necessary, its the pully/bearing that usually goes first since its the lowest and gets most wet

Did the cabin stay dry, as a big concern is the electronics inside the cabin?

Yes Cabin was definitely dry, Based on the water "grime level" it measured 35" on the B pillar when I opened the doors, but not a drop in the cabin.

So were you Submerged up past your hood scoop?? (doesnt sound like it)

Or did you just have a bunch of water that came up over when the ford created the wake?

I take my car swimming all the time through some big mud puddles, (and thats dirty water, not rain water) and never have any problems. I think you will be completley fine, especially after 35mi of no problems.

I suspect you are right, after going back to the flood site, I can see the waterline was about 3 feet and I suspect a 1-1.5 foot wake and a little dip in the road washed a solid amount of water over the Hood.

The ATRAC did come on as the back shifted a little? I don't know if that means anything?

Are you actually comparing a car wash to being completely submerged in water?

Change all the fluids in your diffs, check the air box, let it dry out.

Why were you driving in water this deep? Why not relinquish your 1st gen for swimming?

Was on the way to work and the 2nd gen is sitting at my friend's farm in the Chicago area :crybaby: The first thing I do when I get enough cash is to have it shipped down here.

you must live in houston; i think that was me that splashed you.:dammit:

Good Ol' Route 59 and Hillcroft

Thanks will keep an ear out for this.

Done and Done. Engine detailed, belt conditioned and Lower Pulley re-lubed.

I wouldnt "clean it" just check your filter and look into the hose to see if any dirt is really in there, I doubt any will be. I think i remember you saying that your filter was dirty... Might want to change that out just for the hell of it..

btw how did you detail out your engine? it looks real nice! Id love to have mine look like that again

The problem with just SUV's/ Trucks that Ive never understood why they design their air intakes to act like big vaccum hoses pulling the air from down in the fender where its getting all sorts of debris and water up in there depending on the conditions on the roads/offroading etc from just being a SUV/truck design.. its just asking for trouble! At least with a aftermarket CAI you partly bypass this problem by getting the intake inside the engine where the airs at least clean and have a less chance of sucking some S**t up lol (done ranting now).

The Cleaning of the bay took some time. I just used dish soap, a couple different size brushes and a couple rags. I treated all the plastic with Turtle Wax plastic dressing.

Used Radioshack electrical cleaner on the alternator & MAF which worked great.

Used generic belt dressing and WD40 on the lower pulley idler.

Now I'm considering a Carbon filter delete. (Maybe after 80,000 miles?) When there is absolutely no warranty left on the 4R.

You can pull that filter anytime without problems, many people in your case do just for the minor improvements youl get, swap it for a K&N
