Drowned My 2006 Need Help!

So this past week I admitdly broke one of the cardinal rules of offroading, I let my truck get dirty before me.

The story goes something like this, I have been offroading in this area off and on for the past three years and have visted this site in every season prevriously. I was out with a buddy of mine offroading here when we took the access road into the area we often go. Avoiding the deeper puddles along the way. One particular puddle seemed deeper then usalla so as normal I got out of my yota and checked the depth in several places with a stick it seemed a bit deep about two feet or so but manageable. I got back into my 4runner and found it to be much deeper. The 4runner ran great for the rest of the day going back and fourth to town as my buddy ended up drowing his suzuki in the next set of puddles. However about six hours later just as I was arriving home my 4runner, stalled, I started it up ran up the rpm's but nothing it then stalled again. Since then I have been unable to start it. I am wondering if anyone has had a similar situation and more importantly how they fixed it. Any suggestions?

Did water make it into the cabin? I would suggest going through the engine bay and making sure all the connections are dried out. In addition you're going to want to get any mud and stuff cleaned out - especially in the radiator area.
 
Thanks, for the reply, I spent three days cleaning and drying out my 4runner. Still can't figure out the solution to the starting issue's. . . As far as water in the cabin. . . just a bit

Holy shitballs dude. :eek: DO NOT TRY STARTING IT ANY MORE!!!

Pull all your spark plugs and do an oil change. Then, with the spark plugs out, turn the ignition on for a few seconds at a time so the starter is turning over the engine but it's not actually running. Do this until any water that is inside your cylinders has been ejected. I'd leave it open to air out at least overnight too before buttoning everything back up. I really hope you haven't bent anything yet. Good luck :sign of the cross:

You're saying it's hydrolocked, which I would be worried about too, but if you look at the pic, the air intake is well above the water line (passenger front wheel well). This is good advice for a hydrolocked engine but try and not freak him out yet.

Start by making sure your electronics are dry. There's a kick panel on your drivers side with a lot of wires and connections that look to be under water in your 2nd pic.
 
OP- when you say it won't start, do you mean that it won't turn over or that it won't fire while turning over?

I'm guessing that there is still water in some connections. I would disconnect the battery, and one by one, take apart and dry the connections out. Any connection that you may think water got into. There is chance that you may have fried the alternator as well.

A while back there was a thread on here with some guy that was power washing the inside of his 4runner ( yeah, I know, real piece of work) but eventually got water into one of the connectors and fried the ECM. Hopefully, this didn't happen to you.

Ive heard a few stories about that now (the power washer nut and another guy just out having fun in some puddles) . It seems there is a connector in the drivers side kick panel, very low to the Floor, that gets wet and fries everything. For some reason the runner will run/drive until the next day (weird, I know) and then will not do anything. Keep doing some research and cross your fingers really tight man! I wish you the best of luck! let us know how it goes.
 
Allright I will continue to update this thread but it is still in the shop due to the fact that I am re shingling my house at the moment. I might have to become an ex-member on this forum due to the fact I may not have a 4runner anymore. Thanks to everyone who offerd their thoughts and experiences. I will continue to work at it and we will go from there.

It's all fixable. Time and money I could get I going again. You're trash could be my treasure. It keeps me sane.

My guess would be the oem security/car alarm is located under the drivers seat (or at least it is on the third gens ,little black box )if you had that much water make it inside the cab this might be your issue .it will disable the vehicle ,might run ok for a minute till rust or moisture ruins the unit .i doubt its hydro locked. (edit) you might start there ?

well thank you for all your support and suggestions hopefully it all gets figured out. I had a big offroad trip planned for next week, guess I'll be canceling... thanks again for the suggestions.
