Drowned My 2006 Need Help!

Did you check out under your seat ? the way the truck was leaning and the proximity of the security device makes me think you should look there .also your cab had water on that side right where its located .good luck with your fix ! personally I don't think its all that bad as your intake was up high and your electrics under the hood were up above the water .

I'll look at it as soon as I get back from work see if maybe that has something to do with it. The fact it ran for a whole day of offroading after it's little dip makes me think you might be on to something. . .it would make sense that it might run for a bit then no longer.
 
No luck with the security box under the drivers seat. I now have it firring but it wont turn over. But as mentioned before time and money can fix all. Thanks again for alll the help. . .im gonna keep on plugging at trying to get this working.
 
When you say it's firing but not turning over - what do you mean?

Generally you need 4 things for an engine to start:
1. Engine to turn over (physically rotate by the starter)
2. Spark at right time
3. Fuel
4. Compression

With those 4 things you will get an engine starting without an odd problem. So go down the list and check things.

How exactly did you determine that this is not the issue ?
 
The security box under the seat was/is an optional extra that did not apparently come with my 4runner when I bought it used. So no security box equals not the ussues as farcas I can tell. Unless the box was moved to another location. As for the four things required to start a vehicle you mentioned all the basic bits which I agree it must bevelated to either of those four things or the electronics that are involved in making them all work together which means testing all the modules and circuits to make sure they are doing what they are supposed to do.Thanks for the advice its encouraging to know thatbim in the right track.
 
Is there any way water could have seeped into the gas tank? Just a thought based on how it was sitting. How long was it sitting like that?
 
Been thinking about the water in the tank possibility. It only sat in that puddel for about 10min just enough time to pull the winch up attach to a tree saver and pull out. Does anyone remember what you add to your fuel tank to dissolve water? If by chance some did leak in?
 
Pull the fuses on your fuse box and check to see if any of them are fried. Only thing I can think of just because of the amount of water that got in.. If your engine had hydrolocked I doubt you would have gotten far.. Hope it gets back up and running. i know when my t case took a crap on mine i was really upset but it happens.. good luck..
 
At the moment the culprit seems to be the ecu. However since it is still not up and running it is a wee bit to soon to say for sure that it is the ecu causing the problem. I suspect it is one of several issues, I am hoping that it will be up and running this week but I fear that might be a bit optimistic. I have decided that my 4runner and deep water are not a good mix. I will let everyone know if I get it up and running. Thanks for asking about it.
 
Sub'd. I doubt water made its way into your engine judging from the pic.

Dude on the tacoma forum had a similar thing happen. Was never able to get the truck running. I'm not going to air his laundry, (OP, you can PM me if you'd like). He did end up getting a new truck though.

Good News!

First off I would like to say thank you for all of the suggestions and support through this somewhat challenging process of getting my 4runner sorted out. Your thoughts amd well wishes were greatly appreciated. The good news is that as of yesterday evening I was able to drive my fully functioning 4runner home from the shop. It has been running very smoothly considering what it has been through and I hope after some tender love and care (mainly a thorough cleaning both inside and out) it will be back to 100% of where it should be. The culprit indeed turnned out to be the ecu and after finding that toyota has a stop sales on all ecu's due to some ongoing legal stuff coming out of the States. I was finally able to find a used one from Illinois. Unfortunately once it arrived up here in Canada and the truck was not running smoothly we hooked it up to see what was happening only to find that cylinder number eight was miss-firring. Which is funny cause I drive a V6. So turrned out the guy in the junk yard down in Illinois sent me an ecu for a V8. After several phone calls it was determined that the young lad that was sent out to fetch the part had mistaken the two and pulled the wrong one. The correct ecu was then sent and fast tracked here programed and installed.
I again would like to say thank you for the support amd well wishes. I hope this story reflects the reality that when doing a water/ mud crossing never get your truck wet/dirty before you do. When you come accross a puddle always always walk it before you run it with your truck especially if the most recent storm that went through the area dumped two and a half inches of water in an hour.
Ive learned my lesson and I hope that this might help someone in the future or at least give you a story to tell about this guy that drowned his 4runner and manged to with the help of some friends bring it back to life.

Wait, can you explain the statement that Toyota no longer will allow ecu purchase in Canada due to trade issue with USA.

That seems odd to me. ECU is a Japan origin part. We have seen numerous posts about people needing to wait for one coming direct from Toyota Japan.

Second, why would just 1 part be impacted? Or can you not get any Toyota replacement parts?

Seems odd is all.
