I'll be honest, I'm pretty surprised it stayed straight throughout the rollover too. A testament to the strength of DOM tubing right there! Made me feel like I must be halfway decent at stickin' metal together too haha
After a few months of owning the silver 4Runner, I finally got a day to buff, polish, and wax it. The silver is really starting to grow on me (and it hides scratches WAY better than the IJM rig I had before.) I painted the stock chrome bumper black to clean up the look a little bit. It's just a "temporary fix" until I find the time to fab a front bumper. I built a base for a friend's hi-lift, and consequently hi-jacked it for personal use for the time being. I finished building a small hitch mounted cargo carrier out of some steel I had laying around, but that's in the paint booth with pictures coming in the near future!

Looks good! I'm anxious to see your cargo carrier. I've been thinking about building one too.

what does this do? what are the benefits of 2Lo? glad the silver one is coming along nicely!!
In a nutshell you're just wiring a switch that interrupts the signal which activates the transfer case. 2Lo is actually pretty useful for me because some of the trails I run are pretty tight, and I've experienced some binding a full lock either way. This just frees up the front wheels for some tight turns etc. (and who doesn't like an extra switch to puzzle passengers?!) Thanks for the kind words about the new silver Runner too!
Bandit- Here's a shot of the cargo rack. I toyed with the idea of making it hinged so it could be raised up, and thought about designing the main "beam" so that it could be raised and lowered to different height positions to gain a little ground clearance....Then I came back to Earth and realized the only time I'm going to use it is for camping trips where I have to carry passengers in the backseat, so there wasn't a need for it to be over-engineered haha. Glad you like what I have going so far, maybe one day it will be as awesome as your rig!

Thanks, That turned out real nice. I thought about hinging mine too, but decided against it to reduce complexity. What size did you make yours? I'm thinking about making mine large enough to put 3-4 bikes on, like 60" x 20".
Bandit- The cargo rack is 20"x48". I would have made it a full 2' wide but I only had this size piece of expanded metal laying around, so that's what I used. It would probably make a sweet bike carrier with those fork clamps. I built this 4 place bike rack that can hold my downhill, xc, or jump bike nicely. It's perfect for shuttle runs. It's based off of a North Shore brand rack.
I also whipped up a pack hanger for the back of the seat. I thought I was onto something new and cool when I thought about it, but turns out the guys over at Springtail Solutions beat me to it! Crap. There's is for the FJ/LC crowd. I bent a smaller lower hook on mine so I could hang a coat or something. I bent it up last night and sprayed it with some Kubota orange paint I had leftover.

Well I sold what was left of the wrecked Jade 4runner. Luckily, the drivetrain is going into a pretty interesting project. Just so happens that the new owner needed an engine and trans for his 95 SAS'ed/armored/air locked/dual stick trail rig. I'm pretty sure this is a picture of the rig he has....

Figured I would post an update on the runner. I have a friend with a sweet FJ who has a cool MOLLE pack system that hangs on the back door of his rig, and I have been jealous and wanting to do my own somehow. Here's a picture of what I came up with. Figured this was the best, least obstructive place for a few small packs to organize crap that floats in the cargo area. Also got around to wiring up a small cb (Cobra C75) and making a quick little mount to the rear bumper. I'll have some more pics once I get around to ordering a few packs. Most likely going to go with some simple Condor pouches

I haven't done an update lately, so I'll post a few pics. I finally installed a new stereo head unit (Pioneer DEH-X6600BT) after wanting BlueTooth connectivity for my phone. It works flawlessly and connects automatically within seconds. It works awesome with the phone mounted on the RAM mount for GPS and handsfree use.
My good friend Tyler is trying to get his vinyl lettering business started too, so I guinea pigged a hood wrap for him about 3 months ago. It turned out great!
I should also be getting the truck undercoated by a friend at a Toyota dealership this weekend. I spent the better part of the afternoon the other day cleaning up the rust starting underneath. Pictures of that to come....
