Dual/Diversity Antenna Help

Does anyone know if there is an adapter (or if one is even needed) for the dual antenna leads? As you can see in this pic, there are indeed 2 and one is slightly smaller than the other. I'm aware that I need to supply power to the 3rd wire, but I can't find any information on what to do with the smaller antenna lead. They both plugged into the back of the stock JBL unit, but the new Kenwood DNX7100 I'm installing doesn't have a spot for both.

An adaptor would make no sense. The head unit receives a signal from both antennas and then the circuitry in the HU decides which antenna to pull from (it constantly switches) If you buy a HU with one input then you use only one antenna.

do you meen to tell me theirs two antennas in this truck if so where is the second one located

Yep, there are 2 antennas. It's a "Diversity Antenna" system in the 4Runner. Depending on which antenna is getting a better signal...that's the one the stereo uses. I'm thinking we lose this ability when upgrading to a non-oem unit.

I just found this adapter and although it says it's for a nissan...it looks like it will work perfectly with the 4Runner. I may be ordering shortly.

The antennaes are in the glass in the cargo area. If you look at the glass, you'll see what appears to be the defroster wire within the glass. They are in fact the antennaes.

Fyi...I tried 2 different adapters and neither worked. I ended up using the larger connector and added power. Sounds perfect

That adapter wont work.
If you look at the male nissan plug, it has two "prongs" on it.

You would need an adapter that had a male that was Y-Split into a female universal antenna plug (the bigger of the two toyota plugs) and a second female smaller plug (i belive a GM antenna adapter fits those)

Its not worth the hassle, most aftermarket radios have better FM tuners then stock radios.

Your best off getting an aftermarket head unit with a digital ipod connections, using CD's, one with a USB drive, or something digital.
