the exhaust will improve both hp and torque :) exact figures will depend on config of vehicle but it prob won't be that noticeable. it'll be more psychological than physical as the sound will make you feel like you've gained 50hp! hehe

I would say 5-10hp and 5-15 torque? guestimating... but most definitely better than stock though...

Just a note: If you add a free-flowing exhaust, then you may lower the torque because of LESS back flow.

Just make sure that the Borla exhaust does not decrease torque, which is more important than HP in a SUV.

no, it doesnt... after conversing with lance (good times) and several of my friends who are ase master mechanics that work for toyota ive come to the conclusion that it does not. It takes awhile for the ECU to see that you put a different exhaust on and its not stock. Thats why you get the initial drop in hp or torque numbers. To get the full benefit of the mod, you should reset the ecu after installation.
 
a lot depends on how restrictive the OEM stuff is.
The aftermarket pieces that you use need to compliment what you have and what you plan on doing with your vehicle. You wouldn't want to put 4inch pipes on that thing would you? I could guarantee a loss in torque and horsepower if you did that to a street vehicle.

but if your running a blown motor, you have more air coming in so you need bigger exhaust to help push it out. The engine is also 4.7 litres so it has a fairly large amount of displacement. Im not sure how big the Borla is.... I'll find out tomorrow.

Yeah that might come in handy if you had a blower and were turning some high RPMs racing.
That size v8 doesn't need a hugh pipe especially with everyday driving. The size pipe depends on displacement of the engine and the intended RPM range. 4.7liters isn't huge. I have a 5L mustang and it works great with 2 1/2" dual pipes.

I picked up my new '03 Runner on Friday, it is a V8 Sport 4x4 with the factory installed dual Borla exhaust. SWEET! Talk about turning some heads. :arrow:

factory installed dual exhaust? are you sure about that?

Yes, option DE1 at KBB. Appears the option is only available in SE Toyota region. So perhaps it is a port installed option? But all Toyota. The air cleaner comes with a Borla sticker saying it is a re-usable filter, I guess similar to K&N.

hmm.. interesting...that must be a port installed option, because i have never seen that offered in the north east. What dealership is this?
 
How much extra power??

Guys-
I went to the borla web page, and I found that the system for our car, which I can apparently get for $740!!!, gives an additional 8hp and 12lbs tq. . .does this sound right??

How loud is it?

That sounds about right, drop in a K&N filter and add 5 more hp. I have never driven an SUV, or truck, that has the engine of a Corvette. The response is instant and the gurgle is just audible enough to know you are driving a truck. Money well spent! You might check around, I have seen the dual Borla for around $550ish. That $779 is retail price from Borla or from your Toyota dealer.
