borla for $550?
I simply can't find one for 550, I've looked and called everywhere, the cheapest I found was $740. . .any tips or TRICKS?

I changed my mind on the exhaust, im going to a local shop to get a custom made dual side exit exhaust. I dont have to install it and its alot cheaper.
I purchased mine with the Borla Performance Dual Exhaust as well...from the same dealer, Fred Anderson in Raleigh, NC. I've only seen two 4Runners with this option; one at Leith Toyota and the one I bought. It's installed at the port at Southeast Toyota Distributors.
I highly recommend it if you have the V8. Performance, sound and appearance are all top-notch. It's just what the 4.7L needs.

I dont understand why more people dont go this route. It's usually a lot cheaper and you have a local warranty. There are a lot of very talented exhaust guys near me that build bulletproof systems.
Do the Borla and Flowmaster systems still require you to take out the spare tire from under the truck too?

I picked mine up from trdsparks.com a year ago for under 600, if I recall correctly. Their customer service was also great by the way!
No, there's no need to remove the spare tire for the installation.
The only problem I ran into is both of the rear rubber exhaust hangers have broken and I'm in the middle of trying to get new ones - crappy!

same thing happened to me. call borla directly as your exhaust should be under waranty. they will have a new hanger in the mail next day.
also video of me driving around after i put the borla in.

Can a local exhaust guy weld one up of quality stainless steel and offer a 1 million mile no hassle warranty like comes with the Borla. Most yota regions offer the TRD exhaust - which is made by Borla but with different tips and without the warranty.
Its too loud for me on my '03 V6 (plus have to hear the wife comment every time shes with me " you spent $800 for it to sound like a garbage truck - cheaper to dump the Borla than the wife). Love the way it looks - just too loud at 60-70 mph where I spend most of my time. I plan to put the stock one back on and sell of the Borla. The V6 and V8 both use the exact same version.

i actually bought just the s/s borla universal muffler, and had my friend's shop fab up a system.
it's not shiny or fancy s/s (aluminized was cheaper), doesn't have a shiny tip, or fancy dual tips. they don't have the borla million mile warranty on it since they did it in-shop, but they fix everything free, even if the aluminized pipes eventually rust (they just redid the rusted section).
all i paid for was the muffler and parts/tubing - came out to under $300 (think it was around $210 or so).
but i agree, it drones quite a bit more than i expected. it's louder inside than outside - my wife was not amused, either (probably even less amused than your wife, since we did this to HER T4R - ooops).
on the whole, though, it was fairly inexpensive, gets the job done, and isn't overly ostentatious. if we do happen to bash it going off-road, there's nothing s/s or custom to fix - any muffler shop could fix.

Mine has a aggressive growl sound

A dual exhaust definelty looks sweet but any hp gain is negated by the weight of the extra tubing and muffler for the dual part so really it's just a sound/looks mod.
I've seen plenty of dynos from putting on bigger exhausts on NA vehicles and if they don't lose a bit of overall torque it will move it up higher in the RPM range making the gain less useful unless you really are getting on the gas pedal.
