Dual Exhaust

I am interested in a 2007 4Runner SE V6 4x4. I just have some questions about the dual exhaust option. On Toyota's build your own website it has the option for dual exhaust, but does not state if this is the Borla or TRD exhaust. The options MSRP price is $779.
Does anyone know which exhaust system they are using?
Is this option put on in the factory or at the dealership?
What is the difference between the TRD and Borla exhaust?
Does either exhaust help performance or just give you a warm fuzzy?

I don't have this and somebody that has it could probably give you more details. I test drove one with the dual exhaust and it sounds really good. The bad thing is that it resonates through the cabin pretty bad. It was worse for the people in the back seat and this was just for a 10 minute test drive. I can only imagine the headache I would have on a long road trip.......Again, this is just my $.02.

I have the Borlas on my ride. You can click the link in my sig that says "4Runner Website" for some sound clips of the Borla Exhasut system on a V6. I installed it myself, it was very easy.

The dealer in my town is equipping the 4Runners and Sequoias with Borlas, so I'm almost positive that the dealers will be installing the Borlas. I don't know for sure, but I think the TRD exhaust may give an extra hp or 2, but 1 or 2 whp isn't really that noticeable. If you wanted to, there are plenty of ways you could make up that hp difference.

In my opinion, both systems will increase your whp, but not by enough for you to notice. The main thing it will do, when installed by itself, is give you a "warm fuzzy" as you put it. I love cranking my 4R up now and cruising around compared to when I drove it home off the lot. It sounds like a truck should sound.

Thank you for the advice. I do like the sound of the Borla exhaust. How easy was the change, did you have cut the factory exhaust system or was it just bolted on? Sorry, if I am asking stupid questions. I have a friend who is handy with vehicles and can help me, but I would rather not cut the exhaust system. I know my friend would gladly do it, but the thought makes me nervous. What other easy changes can help the performance?

Off the topic - I was also looking at a bull bar, which I seen on other posts look easy to do too. I was looking at the Westin Ultimate, but I don't see it for the 07 yet. Do they have one yet?

You do not need to cut the stock exhaust. There're only 4 bolts that need to be removed. The first two is 14mm, and the second two is 12mm. The 12mm bolts are located in the rear. They used to connect the muffler to the tailpipe. You will need a 12mm ratches wrench or a offset box type wrench. Remember, remove the BOLTS not the nuts (the nuts are welded to the base. It's not removeable). Spray lots of WD-40 to all bolts and hangers for easy removal. It took me less than 30 minutes to removed the stock exhaust from an 05 V8. Good luck

Actually, I did have to cut one section of the stock exhaust. It was no big deal. I know of some other 4R owners near me and on this site that had to cut their stock pipes to remove them also. Maybe it's a difference between the V8 and V6? <<>>

Everything else was like X6Runner said. Only, I didn't use any WD40. My total time on install from start to finish was still around 1 hour. It's very easy to install exhausts on cars, don't let it intimidate you.

Also, I think there's a thread (maybe in the accessories section) here that talks about the Westin Ultimate being available now. I'm not sure though. And YES, safari bars like that are easy to install.

No problem. Try to do it yourself to save $$$$. It's very easy and straight forward. Here is the current price for Borla exhaust option DE1 at Courtesy Toyota in Florida. $1192 installed. Good luck.

$1192 is ridiculous. If it is installed at Southeast Distributor as a Port Installed Option (PIO), the MSRP is $779 and invoice is $636 according to kbb. That means the dealer charging $556 to install an exhaust system! I will definitely do it myself and then sell my stock exhaust. This way I will put more money where it belongs, in my pocket.

I was looking on the forum and a Tad Bowling was giving deals on the Borla Exhaust if you bought it at Courtesy Toyota Parts Department, Anyone know if he is still doing this?

TRD just puts their stamp on other mfg's products.

for mufflers it's always been Borla who makes it, TRD stamped afterwards.

you pay for the name.

That means the dealer charging $556 to install an exhaust system! I will definitely do it myself and then sell my stock exhaust. This way I will put more money where it belongs, in my pocket.

I was the one who started the thread about contacting Tad Bowling and the deal at Courtesy Toyota in Florida. Glad to see people are still taking advantage and Tad is still offering that great price.

I've had my Borla system on the truck for about a year now and really like it. The system IS different from TRD systems, but very similar. And you don't need to pay the dealership for it to be installed. It went on with the bolt-on clamps provided in the kit. I installed it in my driveway in a couple hours, and didn't even have to lift the truck. The toughest part was removing the rear two bolts of the stock exhaust, so I ended up chopping the exhaust out since I won't reuse it. Once the new system was bolted in, I took a little while to align the rear pipes, then it was time to hear the rumble!
