Dual Kayak Mount for Factory Crossbars (4th Gen 4Runner)

I have two kayaks I'd like to haul with my 4th Gen 4Runner. It's one of the reasons I purchased a 4Runner to begin with. I will admit I don't really have any experience in hauling kayaks or the hardware for such. With that being said, it think I've settled on the following:

Yakima Jaylow Kayak Carrier

Seems I can easily carry one or two kayaks with that. They seem well reviewed on various websites. If I'm not mistaken, I believe the kayaks are about 40lbs each. The Yakima website states the following for this product:

Supports one boat up to 80 lb or two boats with combined weight of 110 lbs or less.

My research shows my factory crossbars will easily hold that weight.

So...any reason to go with another similarly priced or cheaper product?

I purchased 2 racks off amazon. 1 last year that has held up incredibly well and one a few months back when I added a second kayak to the rotation. They have performed fantastically so far. I don't like the dual holders as they can be awkward to get kayaks off of.

I personally went this route because I wanted to save money at the time. After using this for the past year though I am very glad I went this route.

Do you leave those on all the time, even when you aren't hauling kayaks? I really like the idea of being able to fold them down when unused.

My thoughts are that if I like them, make one set work for this summer and then for next summer add another pair of them to the other side.

It depends on what I do with the truck. I often leave them on around town but take them off for road trips on off road adventures.

I prefer load bars as opposed to kayak holders because of the versatility. They work great for kayaks but also anything else you want to throw up there.

The only drawback is its tough for short people to load and unload.

I bought the cheapest Amazon J hooks I could find and so far have no complaints!

I opted to mount them to a set of clamp on Thule bars I had leftover from my previous car. These would work just fine on the stock bars if you preferred. My reasoning with doing this was to make it easier to install and remove the whole set of brackets at once and since the Thule bars I had were leftover and not getting any use.

I don't park in a garage so the height isn't an issue, I can see it being an issue in the future with parking garages so I'll likely take them off after Kayaking next time.
