Here's one! Who thinks that "DUBS" look good and who thinks that anyone who puts "DUBS" on their 4RUNNER should get mental help!!!

IMO it's just a silly trend that hampers every performance aspect of your vehicle which includes acceleration,braking,gas mileage and handling which makes your vehicle a little less safe than it was.

I'm just not a fan of mods that are for looks only especially ones that hurt performance for the sake of looks.

But,as said before it's not my money and if people feel they need to put form over function then it's free country to do so........

........and it's my right to mock them. :biggrin2: :biggrin2: ;):
 
Well Put!!!! People are getting all mad at me, but its my opinion that they look stupid!!! I agree with you 100% about the performance aspect!!! I mean why spend that much on a vehicle and then right off the bat put these huge spaceship lookin rims on it that only harm your car and your gas mileage?!?
 
Hell yeah to Dubs, they look good on my 4Runner...

Your Runner looks sick as hell! I really like that. I myself had a set of 22's on my 1997.
No offence, and I'm not just saying this because thats what I had. But I consider "Dubs" 22" or higher.

I really did not notice any real change at all in my performance, in fact it seemed to handle curves a lot tighter.

Otherwise your Runner I adore. What other Mod's have you done?
 
I only like the TRD Deep Six. But the great thing about this country is the variety and the ability to change opinions. I hated chrome wheels on anything a few years back but if I had a newer Tahoe I would definitely get some chrome on it. New Tahoe's look sick, off-topic i know.

what about 20" rims. Would that be big enoughto hurt performance? I want to get new rims but I definately dont want that gangster escalade look on a 4runner. Anything over 20-21 is just too big for a truck that was designed to offroad.
 
Yeah, but do 20's hurt performance? I live in southern california, so I don't put specific wheels on just for winter. But I snowboard almost every weekend, so I don't want to lose any performance.
 
22" wheels will "hurt" performance - whatever is meant by that. In the same respect, putting larger tires will also "hurt" performance. Anything that will increase the length of the moment arm or corresponding weight will make the engine have to work harder to compensate. Think about it this way - Is it easier to rotate a tennis ball on the end of a string or a bowling ball, and, which is easier to stop? If you can find a 20" wheel/tire combination that retains the stock height and close to the stock weight you should not notice any adverse reactions (decreased mpg's, odometer error). Do what you want regardless, it's your sh*t, eh!

Here is a question for all the people that think "DUBS" hamper performance:
Suppose that you install a modest 3 or 4" lift, keep your "stock" 16" wheels, but upgrade tire size to a 32 or 33... what do you think that does to your performance??
Added stress and wear on suspension components, added stress and wear on braking system, steering, ect. My point is just because you don't like the way it looks, doesn't mean that it is bad for the car, if it were why do dozens of manufactures make 20" wheels either standard or optional from the factory?
By the way, I just took my "DUBS" ie 20" wheels with 285/50/20 Toyo AT's through anywhere from 4" to 10" of snow, while climbing steep hills and fire trails with absolutely no issues.

They make oversized rims stock on some vehicles because they want to attract the young "Fake Thug" crowd. Like the escalades for example.

On cars however, what "performance" is it hurting? It'll never see so much as a gravel road in most cases.
 
IdahoRunner I love the looks of your 4Runner, the limited silver/green looks great, and the fact that you've got 20"s on it... even better! :bigok: That was the color combo I was looking for but couldn't find, So I went with an all black sport edition instead.

Exactly my point, size is size. Also, when an automobile manufacturer makes a car with 20 inch wheels the vehicle's components are designed for that application. If you do notice, however, if the same vehicle comes with wheels of different sizes the tire size changes to accommodate for the change in diameter of the wheel. It is all a trade-off anyways, some would say the added off-road "performance" gained by adding larger tires outweighs the corresponding decrement in street "performance", and vice versa.

Yeah I do now, but before I had 20"s :D . I have been on some old country roads (no pavement), gravel, grass, etc. But basicly it's strictly street. It did perform well in the snow just about 20 minutes ago on the back roads.. lol
